New installation files

  • RS_1.10.0–RC(361)–Setup.exe: This is the installation file used to install a Render Satellite. Details can be found here.
  • DLFAC_ZuniExtract_2.2.2.(24)–Setup.exe: This installation file replaces the previous ZuniExtract installer, which has to be additionally installed on the printer workstation for Tau printing systems. The following conditions must be observed or scenarios considered:
    • New Installation – DLFAC (setup with ZE) is to be installed. This installation also includes ZuniExtract. The serial number must be unlocked using the Service Portal. Afterwards the DLFA has to be connected to the workflow. Details can be found here.
    • ZuniExtract is already installed and DLFA is not – Everything can stay as is until DLFA is installed. Once DLFA is installed, please see the next point. Details about this can be found here.
    • ZuniExtract and DLFA (Durst Logfile Analyzer) is installed – ZuniExtract must be uninstalled in this case and DLFA must be connected to the Workflow.
    • DLFA is installed and ZuniExtract is not – DLFA must be connected to Workflow. Details can be found here.

1. Overview

With version 1.10.0, users can take advantage of several new features in the environment of the Impose Editor, Cutting Devices, Fixups and handling of data. Additional improvements have been implemented in the area of Print Data Management, Editing and Outputting Print Data. Since version 1.10.0 is a major release, after upgrading to version 1.10.0 you should also read the release notes for the interim version: Release notes version 1.9.1 to familiarize yourself with the range of functions included in comparison to new features for this major release.

An overview of all changes (made to version 1.9.1) are outlined below, and a detailed description is included for specific areas such as Features, Improvements and Bug Fixes.

1.1. Adobe Illustrator Plug–In

The following new features are available in version 1.10.0 of the Plug–in:

Plug-in Version 1.10.0: If you are working with version 1.10.0 of the Workflow, version 1.10.0.0 of the Plug–in must be installed to ensure consistent operation. No new features have been implemented in the Plug–in between Workflow version 1.9.1 and 1.10.0. Two bugs have been fixed.

1.2. New Features in the Workflow

The following new features are available in version 1.10.0 of the Workflow:

Impose Editor: In version 1.10.0, new components in the Impose Editor have been developed and implemented in the Workflow. In addition, previously existing functions were further expanded and improved. The following features were implemented in this release:

  • Double-sided Output – In this release, an additional option has been implemented for Double–sided Output in Nesting mode. This new option makes it possible to determine whether Marks, Captions, Lines, Grommets and/or Cutting Marks are generated and output on the front, on the back or on both sides.
  • Advanced Print Item Settings – As of version 1.10.0, additional settings are available for Print Items contained in the imposition. In Nesting, Step & Repeat and Manual modes, a Spot Color layer can be defined for each Print Item, including Tint Value, Overprinting status, Position and Offset. For the Print Items on the backside of the double–sided output in Nesting, the mirroring or rotation options have been expanded, and a setting for the Print Item Opacity on the reverse side has been added.
  • Save Options for Tiling – A new dialog is now visible when saving a Tiling, which makes it possible to save individual tiles as separate Articles in the Workflow. These Tiling Articles can then be used in an imposition. This function previously existed in earlier versions, but the dialog was simply forgotten in version 1.9.1 after the Impose Editor was updated to the new user interface.
  • Marks – Starting with this version, five new Marks are available in the Impose Editor, which can be applied to the imposition. These Marks use the newly implemented DeviceN Spot Color definition, which allows outputting pure colors.
  • Object Creation Tools – The drawing tools that were implemented with version 1.9.1 have been further improved with this release. Thereby the creation, modification and drawing of objects has been improved in their handling. In addition, the overprint status of a drawn object can be set. The user interface design has been adapted to ensure consistent behavior and an improved user experience.
  • Numeric Input Fields – As of version 1.10.0, the Impose Editor has numeric input fields that now have the ability to calculate numbers. Certain input fields can be used as calculators, so to speak, which can be combined with various measurement units and calculation types.

Creation Color Setup Variations: As of version 1.10.0, several variations of a Color Setup can be created, based on the Color Setup itself as well as on the Color Configurations of the printer. Therefore, theoretically, eight additional Color Setups: CMYK–OV, CMYK–OG, CMYK–VG, CMYK–O, CMYK–V, CMYK–G, CMYK and/or K, can be generated automatically from a single CMYK–OVG Color Setup. The respective Channel Configurations to be generated must be created beforehand under the printer's settings in the Channel Configuration panel, so that these variants can be created.

Administering Interfaces: As of this release, external services to the Workflow can be created, edited and managed in the newly implemented Interfaces menu item. There are currently two different Interface variants. These are:

  • Render Satellites – Render Satellites (ZuniComm) serve the purpose of distributing and/or optimizing the rip process (rendering as well as rasterizing as a separate unit) by harnessing available computer resources. Render Satellites are also used to control Measurement Devices, Printers or Proofers from an external location in the future in order to distribute the production effort using the available resources. A Render Satellite is a dedicated installation of an application (ZuniComm) on a computer system or on a virtual machine.
  • Third-party Printers – Third–party Printers can be managed or used in the Workflow from this version on. For this purpose, the Third–party Printer Interface must be configured for the printer directly in the Workflow. As of this version, the user can set up a third–party printer so that the printer can be used in the Workflow in the same way as printers are normally controlled directly by the Workflow.

Hosts and Shares: Hosts and Shares that are created in the Workflow must now be assigned to a "type" as of this release. Each Host in the Workflow requires a special, predefined "type", so that this type can then be offered for selection only where it is relevant. Previously existing Hosts within the Workflow will be migrated after updating to the latest version and the "type" will be assigned automatically.

Send to Printer dialog: Starting from this version, an additional dialog can be opened within the Send to Printer dialog, which lists all Print Items that are included in the imposition displaying their effective dimensions.

Fixups: In this version, existing Fixups have been revised and two additional Fixups have been added to the Workflow.

Rest API: There are new features in the Subscription Controller API, Article Controller API, Production Job Controller API and Motif Controller API. In addition, more improvements have been implemented in the Subscription Controller API.

SDK Versions: Updates from various OEM partners also provide further innovation and improvements. Version 1.10.0 includes Color Logic SDK version 1.16.10–39977 and Callas Software SDK version 12.3.

1.3. Improvements

The following existing functions have been improved with version 1.10.0 of the Workflow:

Cutfile Name and Barcode Content: In this version, the QR Code/Barcode content for cutting devices has been adjusted to minimize problem cases. For some cutting devices, proprietary templates for Barcode content is available, so that the corresponding cut files can be clearly identified by the cutting device.

Spot Measurements using the Barbieri LFPqb: As of version 1.10.0, the Barbieri LFPqb measurement device for Spot Color measurements can be positioned manually on the measurement table. This was previously only possible by removing the measurement device from the measurement table.

Fixup Chains: Starting with this version, an existing Fixup Chain can be selected via the action bar when creating a Production Job or Order as well as when adding Print Items. The Fixup Chain is then executed during the check–in process.

Substrate Costs: From this version on, Substrate costs using the selected currency defined in the system settings, can be defined per square meter for Substrates in the Workflow. These will be used for statistical data in the future.

Displaying the effective size of Print Items: Under the Print Items tab of the Impose Editor, all Print Items contained in the Production Job are displayed. From this version on, the dimensions below the preview thumbnail show the effective size including any scaling factor that has been applied.

Supported Data Types: As of version 1.10.0, additional file types: .ps and .postscript, are supported when uploading print data.

Minor Improvements: Additional minor improvements have been implemented.

1.4. Fixed Bugs

Adobe Illustrator Plug-In: A list of fixed bugs and/or minor improvements in the Adobe Illustrator PlugIn.

Workflow: A list of fixed bugs and/or minor improvements in the main application.

Impose Editor: A list of fixed bugs and/or minor improvements in the Impose Editor.

2. New Features

In this section you will learn about new features that have been developed in the Adobe Illustrator Plug-In, Impose Editor and the Workflow. In some cases, existing functions may have also been updated.

2.1. Adobe Illustrator Plug–In

If you are working with version 1.10.0 of the Workflow, version 1.10.0.0 of the Plug-in must be installed to ensure consistent operation. If you are using an older version of the Plug-in, you will be notified in the Plug-in when you log in.

Support for older versions of Adobe Illustrator

Please note that the current PlugIn Version 1.10.0.0 can only installed for Adobe Illustrator CC 2019, Adobe Illustrator CC 2020 and Adobe Illustrator CC 2021. If Adobe Illustrator CC 2019 or Adobe Illustrator CC 2020 is being used with Mac OS for DW 1.10.0.0, the 1.8.1.0 plug–in must be used. Plug–in 1.10.0.0 is compatible with Mac OS only when Adobe Illustrator CC 2021 is used.

Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 and Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.3 can still be used with thePlugIn Version 1.7.0.26in conjunction with Durst Workflow 1.7.2. Using PlugIn Version 1.7.0.26 in conjunction with newer Workflow versions is at your own risk. Support cases or bugs for this constellation/configuration will not be followed up and/or fixed.

Adobe Illustrator 2018 can still be used withPlugIn version 1.7.6.36 in conjunction with Durst Workflow 1.7.6. The use of PlugIn version 1.7.6.36 in conjunction with newer Workflow versions is at your own risk. Support cases or errors for this constellation will not be followed up and corrected.

2.2. Impose Editor

In this version, new functions have been implemented in the Workflow's Impose Editor. In addition, some previously existing functions have been revised and extended. Details concerning  new features and improvements in the Impose Editor relavant to version 1.10.0 are described in more detail in the following sections.

2.2.1. Nesting – Double–sided Output

In this version, we've implemented an additional option when using Double–sided Output in Nesting. This new option allows the user to determine whether Marks, Captions, Lines, Grommets and QR or Barcodes for cutters should be generated on the frontside, backside or both sides. Proceed as follows:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Switch to Nesting mode and select Double–sided Output [1] under Artboard Settings > Settings.
  3. Select the desired option under Create Marks On [2].
    • Frontside — Select this option when Marks, Captions, Lines, Grommets and QR or Barcodes for cutting devices should be generated on the frontside.
    • Backside – Select this option when Marks, Captions, Lines, Grommets and QR or Barcodes for cutting devices should be generated on the backside.
    • Frontside and Backside – Select this option when Marks, Captions, Lines, Grommets and QR or Barcodes for cutting devices should be generated on both the frontside and the backside.
  4. After selecting the appropriate options, proceed with the imposition.

Impose Editor

Information for Cutting Device Marks and/or Barcodes

  • If Create Marks On > Frontside has been selected, Marks or Barcodes for the respective cutting device will only be generated on the frontside. Therefore, only one cutfile – based on the frontside of the imposition, will be sent to the cutter.
  • If Create Marks On > Backside has been selected, Marks or Barcodes for the respective cutting device will only be created on the backside. Therefore, only one cutfile – based on the backside of the imposition, will be sent to the cutter.
  • If Create Marks On > Frontside and Backside has been selected, Marks or Barcodes for the respective cutting device will be created on the frontside as well as on the backside. Therefore, two cutfiles – based on the frontside and on the backside of the imposition, will be sent to the cutter.

2.2.2. Advanced Print Item Settings

As of version 1.10.0, additional settings are available for Print Items in an imposition. In Nesting, Step & Repeat and Manual mode, a Spot Color can be defined per Print Item, e.g.: White including Tint Value, Overprint Status, Position and Offset can be defined. When using Double–sided Output in Nesting mode, for Print Items on the backside, both mirroring and rotation can be individually set for each item and the opacity of the Print Item on the backside can also be defined. Additional details concerning these options can be found in the following two sections.

Advanced settings for Nesting, Step & Repeat and Manual Mode

In addition to the previously available options such as; number of copies, horizontal as well as vertical scaling and rotation, the following parameters can be defined for each Print Item as of version 1.10.0.

  • Spot Color – This option allows the user to select System–wide defined Spot Colors that have been defined as Output as Separation in the Create Spot Color Definition dialog. Typical examples are White, Varnish or Primer.
  • Opacity – This option allows the user to determine the opacity for the selected Spot Color. A value between 0% and 100% can be entered.
  • Overprint – This option allows the user to determine whether the selected Spot Color should be overprinted or omitted. Typically in most cases, overprint is set to active as this is usually required. Deactivate this option only if the Spot Color area should be omitted.
  • Position – This option allows the user to specify to which area: ImageBox or ImageBox + Bleed, the Spot Color should be added. Filling an irregular contour is not possible.
  • Offset – This option allows the user to define whether the Spot Color rectangle should have an Offset in relation to the previously chosen Position. A positive offset increases the surface area by the entered value on all four sides of the Print Item.

Typical use–case scenarios for these options are:

  • To add a solid color background (e.g. White), to either individual Print Items or all Print Items in the imposition.
  • To add color to single/multiple Print Items in an imposition with White.
  • To add Primer to single/multiple Print Items.
  • Add a White layer which replaces the Print Item.

Follow these steps to leverage these new settings:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Switch to the desired Impose Mode (with the exception of Tiling).
  3. Add the desired Print Item to the imposition.
  4. Select the desired Print Item under the Print Items tab.
  5. Click the Edit Selected Print Items icon (pencil) in the toolbar of the Print Items tab. This will open the Edit Selected Print Items dialog.
  6. Click the gear icon to switch between the Standard and Advanced Settings [3].
  7. Select the desired settings.
  8. Save the dialog by clicking Apply [4] to continue with the imposition.

Impose Editor

Advanced Settings are also available for the backside

The new Advanced Settings can also be combined with the Backside settings for outputting prints for light boxes for example, when the Double–sided Output option is selected.

Advanced settings for Double–sided Nesting

If Double-sided Output is selected when using Nesting, additional options are available from version 1.10.0 in addition to the previously available options for selecting the Print Item or Spot Color, for example, to create a Day & Night ready production. The following new parameters can be selected for the Print Item on the backside:

  • Mirroring – Use this option to determine if the Print Item should be mirrored on the backside. The options Vertical, Horizontal and None are available.
  • Rotation – Use this option to determine if the Print Item should be rotated by 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° on the backside.
  • Opacity – Use this option to determine the opacity for the selected Print Item on the backside. A value between 0% and 100% can be entered.

Typical use–case scenarios for these options are:

  • Creating prints on translucent substrates for light boxes, where the frontside contains the Print Item and the backside needs to mirror the Print Item using reduced opacity. The settings displayed in Figure 3 correspond exactly to the described result.
  • Create Day & Night products with single/multiple Print Items, where white must be under–printed on the backside and optionally on the frontside. To underprint white, the user must activate the Advanced Settings for the backside.
  • Creating prints that require an additional opaque masking layer.

Follow these steps to leverage these new settings:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Switch to Nesting mode and select Double–sided Output under the Impose Output option.
  3. Add the desired Print Items to the imposition.
  4. Select the desired Print Items in the Print Items tab.
  5. Click on the Edit selected Print Items pencil icon in the toolbar of the Print Items tab. This will open the Edit selected Print Items dialog.
  6. Select the Backside [5] tab.
  7. Enter the desired settings.
  8. Save the dialog by clicking Apply [7] to continue with the imposition.

Impose Editor

Day & Night Output

To create a Day & Night output, you must first select Advanced Settings [6] for the backside and select White under the Spot Color drop–down list for the desired Print Item(s) and activate the Overprint option. If you need to create a second white layer, due to poor coverage when using white inks, you should also use the same settings on the frontside.

Please note, if you need to reduce white ink consumption, the opacity can be selected accordingly. To create an opaque white, use the minimum percentage that produces the desired result.

2.2.3. Save Options for Tiling

When the user saves a Tiling, a dialog is opened in this version which makes it possible to save individual tiles as separate tiling Articles in the Workflow.  These tiling Articles can then be used together in an imposition. This function actually existed in previous versions, but the dialog was simply forgotten in version 1.9.1 after the Impose Editor user interface was updated. Proceed as follows to create separateTiling Articles:

  1. Open the Impose Editor and select Tiling mode.
  2. Create the desired Tiling.
  3. Save the imposition or Production Job by clicking on Save in the action bar.
  4. When you save the imposition for the first time, the Save Options for Tiling dialog appears. In this dialog, specify whether a separate Article for each Tile should be created in the Workflow or whether the Tiling should be saved as a multi–page imposition. Activate the Create separate Article for each Tile option if you want to use the individual Tiles for an imposition in an additional step.
  5. Continue with the production as needed.

Impose Editor

Subsequently saving a multi–page Tiling as individual Tiling Articles

If you have already saved a Tiling as a multi–page imposition, saving individual Tiles as separate Tiling Articles can only be mapped by saving the existing Tiling as an additional Production Job via the Save As option in the Impose Editor.

2.2.4. Marks

Starting from this version, five new Marks from the manufacturer Codimag – Flexo–Presses and Platesetters, are available in the Impose Editor. These Marks use the newly implemented DeviceN Spot Color definition, which allows the colors to be output as pure colors. Continue reading to find more detailed information regarding these Marks and their settings in the following sections.

Codimag 01

Proceed as follows if you want to use the Codimag 01 Mark in an imposition:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Create an imposition using the desired Impose Mode with the desired Print Items.
  3. Activate the Marks tab on the right side of the Impose Editor.
  4. Under Marks, select the Codimag 01 Mark.
  5. Specify the desired settings regarding Origin [8], Reference Point [9], Size [10], Offset [11] and Color [12] for the Mark.
  6. Continue with the imposition as needed.

Positioning and Dimensions

Like any other Mark in Impose Editor, this Mark can be placed in terms of Origin, Position, Reference Point and Offset. This Mark only contains color areas. For this reason, the appearance can only be changed via the Width and Height.

Color Options

By default, the Workflow uses the system–wide DeviceCyan Spot Color for this Mark. This can consequently be changed to any Spot Color or CMYK color. If the option Use color values from the SVG file is selected, then the Mark will also be created with »DeviceCyan« because this color is defined in the SVG.

If you want to use the Mark as a control Mark for quality assessment regarding printer adjustment, you must arrange the Marks as shown in the figure below and use DeviceCyan, DeviceMagenta, DeviceYellow, DeviceBlack, DeviceOrange, DeviceViolet, DeviceGreen and White for color adjustment. By using these colors, the Marks will be printed in the printer's process color (not color managed). If the printer does not have all the process colors used, the Mark will not be printed.

The Codimag 02 Mark is characterized by the fact that all process colors of the printer can be printed in one Mark. Proceed as follows if you want to use this Mark in the imposition:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Create the imposition using the desired Impose Mode and the necessary Print Items.
  3. Select the Marks tab on the right side of the Impose Editor.
  4. Using the Marks drop–down list, select the Codimag 02 Mark.
  5. Specify the desired settings regarding Origin, Reference Point, Size and Offset for the Mark. The individual colors (process colors) are stored in the Mark itself, which is why the option Color values from an SVG file [13] is selected by default.
  6. Continue with the imposition as needed.

Positioning and dimensions

Like any other Mark in Impose Editor, this Mark can be placed in terms of Origin, Position, Reference Point and Offset. There are no restrictions for this Mark concerning these settings.

Settings

This Mark consists of lines and shapes. The line width [13] only affects the grid inside the Mark. Changing the Width and Height will increase the size of the Mark including all the areas within it. Note that the color areas on the outer, horizontal and vertical center line are created as paths, which adjusts the stroke width for the color areas accordingly.

Color Options

By default, the option Color values from an SVG file [16] is used for this Mark. The colors DeviceCyan, DeviceMagenta, DeviceYellow, DeviceBlack, DeviceGreen, DeviceOrange, DeviceViolet and White are used in the SVG / Mark. Individual colors cannot be changed in this case. If for whatever reason you want to print the grid portion in a color other than DeviceBlack, you can do so by selecting a Spot Color [15] or a CMYK color value [14]. However, if you change the area color to CMYK or a Spot Color, only those parts of the frame that are not process colors will be adjusted.

Proceed as follows if you want to use the Codimag 03 Mark in an imposition:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Create the imposition using the desired Impose Mode and the necessary Print Items.
  3. Select the Marks tab on the right side of the Impose Editor.
  4. Using the Marks drop–down list, select the Codimag 03 Mark.
  5. Specify the desired settings regarding Origin, Reference Point, Size and Offset for the Mark.
  6. Continue with the imposition as needed.

Positioning and Dimensions

Like any other Mark in Impose Editor, this Mark can be placed in terms of Origin, Position, Reference Point and Offset. There are no restrictions for this Mark concerning these settings..

This Mark contains only shapes. For this reason, the line thickness cannot be changed for this Mark. The dimension and/or the width and height of the Mark can be adjusted as needed.

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Create the imposition using the desired Impose Mode and the necessary Print Items.
  3. Select the Marks tab on the right side of the Impose Editor.
  4. Using the Marks drop–down list, select the Codimag 04 Mark.
  5. Specify the desired settings regarding Origin, Reference Point, Size and Offset for the Mark.
  6. Continue with the imposition as needed.

Positioning and Dimensions

Like any other Mark in Impose Editor, this Mark can be placed in terms of Origin, Position, Reference Point and Offset. There are no restrictions for this Mark concerning these settings..

The Codimag 05 Mark is characterized by the fact that all process colors of the printer can be printed in one Mark. Proceed as follows if you want to use this Mark in the imposition:

  1. Open the Impose Editor.
  2. Create the imposition using the desired Impose Mode and the necessary Print Items.
  3. Select the Marks tab on the right side of the Impose Editor.
  4. Using the Marks drop–down list, select the Codimag 05 Mark.
  5. Specify the desired settings regarding Origin, Reference Point, Size and Offset for the Mark. The individual colors (process colors) are stored in the Mark itself, which is why the option Color values from an SVG file is selected by default.
  6. Continue with the imposition as needed.

Positioning and Dimensions

Like any other Mark in Impose Editor, this Mark can be placed in terms of Origin, Position, Reference Point and Offset. There are no restrictions for this Mark concerning these settings..

Settings

This Mark consists only of lines. For this reason, the line thickness [20] as well as the dimension can be adjusted via Width and Height [21]. The larger the Mark is, the finer the line width of the Mark appears. The line width is therefore not adjusted by increasing the size of the Mark.

Color Options

By default, this Mark uses the option Use color values from the SVG file. The colors DeviceCyan, DeviceMagenta, DeviceYellow, DeviceBlack, DeviceGreen, DeviceOrange, DeviceViolet, and White are used in the SVG / Mark. Individual colors cannot be changed in this case. If for whatever reason you want to change the line color to a Spot Color, you can map this by simply selecting a Spot Color in the Color Options.

Refer to section 2.3.2 Workflow DeviceN Spot Colors of the release notes for version 1.9.0 to see how the DeviceN Spot Colors behave, which are stored in the Marks by default.

2.2.5. Object Creation Tools

The Object Creation Tools introduced with version 1.9.1 of the Workflow, have been further improved in their handling as well as functionality in 1.10.0. Regarding handling, modification and drawing objects has been improved, and with regard to functionality, the user can now activate the Overprint status. The user interface design has been adapted to ensure consistency when using the Workflow.

Version 1.10.0 offers the following changes:

  • Settings Panel: The Settings panel has been revised and divided into more intuitive subsections. Each Settings subsection can be expanded and collapsed.
    • Settings [22] – The user can change detailed options for each object as needed here, this is a context based section and will change based on the tool selected.
    • Color [23] – The user can define the Stroke and Fill color, depending on the object type created.
    • Object List [24] – This list contains one entry for each object that is drawn. You can perform the following actions within this list:
      • Remove all objects – By clicking on the trash icon [25] all drawn objects will be removed.
      • Remove Object – By clicking on the X symbol [27] individual drawn objects will be removed.
      • Select Object – By clicking on the listed object [26], the objects is highlighted and the corresponding object is selected in the imposition.
  • Actions: The action options in the Impose Editor header have been removed. Objects created in version 1.9.1 could still be removed there.
  • Overprinting Status: As of version 1.10.0, it is possible to specify whether the Stroke and Fill colors should be overprinted or omitted.
  • Handling: Numerous optimizations have been added to improve handling when creating objects, e.g. objects without a Fill and Stroke color are indicated using a blue placeholder frame.

Impose Editor

2.2.6. Numeric Input Fields

As of version 1.10.0, the Impose Editor has input fields with calculation and conversion functions built in. Certain input fields can be used as calculators, so to speak, which can be combined with various units and calculation types, brackets can also be used.

The following calculation types are supported in these input fields:

  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division – Use these familiar characters +, , *, / to execute calculations in the input fields. For example: 4+31*2*5 results in 3. Point calculation is performed before dash calculation. By using brackets: (4+31)*2*5 which results in 60. The calculation can be executed correctly.
  • Exponentiate – Use the ^ character to exponentiate numbers. For example: 2^3 results in 8. The number 2 is raised to the power of the number 3.
  • Root Calculation – To do this, use the \ character to determine the root. For example: 64\2 results in 8. The square root of 64 is calculated.
  • Modulo – Use the % character to calculate the modulo. For example: 19%5 results in 4 . The remainder of the calculation 19 divided by 5 is output.

The following units of measurement can be combined:

  • m – Meter
  • cm – Centimeter
  • mm – Millimeter
  • inch | in | " – Inch = 2.54 cm
  • feet | ft | ' – foot = 304.8 mm
  • pt – Point = 0.35278 mm
  • z – tooth = 3.175 mm = 9pt – 96 z = 1 ft = 304.8 mm

Availability: Calculation functions are available in the following areas of the Impose Editor:

  • Width and Height of the Printed Area
  • X and Y transformations in Manual Impose Mode
  • Width and Height of the Print Item in Manual Impose Mode
  • Bleed Top, Left, Bottom and Right
  • Margins Top, Left, Bottom and Right
  • Additional distance for rotated Print Items in Nesting mode
  • Horiz. and Vert. Distance in nesting
  • Horiz. and Vert. Distance in Step & Repeat
  • Offset per column in Step & Repeat
  • Width and Height of the Tiling Print Item
  • Horizontal and Vertical Overlap in Tiling
  • Printed Overlap Top, Left, Bottom and Right in Tiling
  • Width and Height of Tiles in Tiling By Size
  • Line Thickness, Length, Width, Height and X and/or Y Offset for each Mark
  • Size of the white background for each Mark
  • Indent, Offset, Width and Height of a Caption
  • Line Thickness, X and/or Y Offset and Stroke/Gap of a Line
  • Spacing Max. Horizontal, Max. Vertical, Offset, Line Thickness and Width/Height of Grommets

2.3. Creation of Color Setup Variations

As of version 1.10.0, several variants of a Color Setup can be generated, based on the selected Color Setup as well as the Channel Configuration(s) of the printer. Thus, eight additional Color Setups: CMYK–OV, CMYK–OG, CMYK–VG, CMYK–O, CMYK–V, CMYK–G, CMYK and/or K, can be derived from one CMYK–OVG Color Setup. The Color Setup variations to be generated must exist as a Channel Configuration under Administration > Printer Setup at the time of creation for these variations to be successfully created. Proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the menu item Administration > Printer Setup.
  2. Select the printer for which you would like to create Color Setup variations.
  3. Double–click on the desired entry in the list.
  4. Check whether the desired Channel Configurations have already been created in the Channel Configuration [28] panel.
  5. If a Channel Configuration is missing, create it beforehand. You can find out how to do this in the article Creating and editing a new Channel Configuration.

  1. Then switch to the Color > Color Setup menu item.
  2. Select the desired Color Setup in the list.
  3. Select Process > Create Color Setup Variations in the action bar.
  4. In the Create Color Setup Variations dialog, you can now select those Color Channel Configurations for which a separate Color Setup is to be created by activating the checkboxes.

PMS WebGui :: Production Jobs
  1. In the dialog, select the desired Color Channel Configurations.
  2. Confirm your selection by clicking on the Ok button. After confirming, a process is started in the background which creates the Color Setup(s) and calculates the Color Setup(s) to be generated so that they can then be used in the Workflow. This may take some time. The Color Setups that are successfully created are already displayed in the Color Setup list while the Color Setups are being calculated. As of this version, the base (parent) Color Setup is also displayed in a separate column, so that the user can easily recognize from which Color Setup the new Color Setups are derived.

Changes in a Color Setup

Please note that any changes made in a Color Setup do not automatically result in an update to the corresponding sister or parent Color Setup. A change in the generation of a Substrate Profile must therefore be done manually in all Color Setups.

Customizing Color Setup names

After creating variations of a Color Setup, adjust the names of the new Color Setups using an appropriate naming scheme. You can see which Channel Configuration the Color Setup has, for example under the Name column (i.e., CMYK Copy) or in the Description column.

2.3.1. Color Setup Status

As of this version, Color Setups now have a Status so that the user can easily recognize whether Color Setups are complete, incomplete or incorrect. In version 1.10.0, a Status has been implemented based on the Create Color Setup Variation function, so that the user is informed when the generation process has been started, performed and completed. The respective status is displayed in the Color Setup List and also in the detailed view of an opened Color Setup . The following statuses are available:

  • Created – If a Color Setup is created manually in the Workflow, this status is set. The Color Setup has only been created and neither measurement nor calculation of the Color Setup has been performed.
  • In Progress – As soon as the first measurement has been performed or the first Color Setup Profile has been calculated, the status is set from Created to In Progress. Only when the Color Setup has been completed will this status be changed.
  • Production Ready – The Color Setup gets the status Production Ready when all necessary profiling steps have been carried out, all Color Setup profiles of a Color Setup and also the Color Policies have been calculated successfully. The Color Setup or the Color Policies can be used in the system from this point on.
  • Generation started – After the Create Color Setup Variations process has been started, the respective Color Setups are generated and displayed in the system. As long as the generation is not yet completed, this status is displayed for the respective Color Setups.
  • Generation Error – If an internal error occurs while executing the Create Color Setup Variations function, this status is set. The created Color Setup must be deleted manually by the user, as it can no longer be used by the system. Please contact customer service before doing so.

2.4. Administrating Interfaces

As of this version, services that need to be addressed outside the Workflow can be created, edited and managed under the Administration > Interfaces menu item. In version 1.10.0, two interfaces: ZuniComm and Third–party Printers, are available for the first time. In the future, additional services will be available here to monitor or administrate the availability of external services from within the Workflow.

2.4.1. ZuniComm

ZuniComm, which a service for controlling the required SDKs in the Workflow, is available for the first time as an external service with version 1.10.0. This allows you to install so–called Render Satellites, which serve the purpose of distributing the ripping process, rendering as well as rasterizing as a separate unit, using available computer power or to optimize the workload. A Render Satellite therefore represents a dedicated installation of the ZuniComm application on a computer system or on a virtual machine.

Render Satellites can be leveraged in the following scenarios:

  • Distribute RIP power to multiple computers
  • To reserve RIP power for individual printers in partially different networks
  • To outsource rendering requirements for large VDP jobs in order not to interfere with the central rendering service (in the future)
  • Distribute RIP power intelligently to available Render Satellites (future)
  • Provide RIP power for the Workflow running in the cloud on–site in the production facilities (future)
  • Control measurement devices, some of which need to be connected via USB, anywhere in the enterprise (future)

2.4.2. Third–party Printers

Third–party printing systems can be managed or used in the Workflow from this version onwards. The interface for the third–party printer must first be created or configured in the Workflow. From this version onwards, the interface for the service can be set up to control third–party printers, so that external printers can subsequently be created in the Workflow and used for jobs.

2.5. Hosts and Shares

Hosts and Shares that have been or will be created in the Workflow must be categorized starting with this version of the Workflow. Each Host in the Workflow requires a special, predefined type, so that this type can then only be offered for selection where it is relevant. This makes it possible to keep selection lists extremely short for the user, in order to prevent selecting the wrong directory.

Installing version 1.10.0 will automatically migrate existing Hosts assigning a type automatically. To be on the safe side, please check if existing Shares have the correct type assigned. The following types can be assigned:

  • Printer – Select this type when creating a Host or Share for a printer. These Hosts or Shares will then be available when you create or edit a printer (with the exception of third–party printers).
  • Third–party Printer – Select this type if a third–party printer is to be created in the Workflow. For this purpose, the Host or Share where the print data for a third–party printer must be stored should be set up. The created Host or Shares will then be offered when you create or edit a third–party printer.
  • Hotfolder – You can select this type if the Host is a monitored Share that should be used as an input folder for Hotfolders. Hosts or Shares will then be available when creating or editing a Hotfolder under the Processing Parameters tab.
  • Report Templates – This type is not currently used in the Workflow, but it will be used in the future to allow custom Approval or Ink Cost Reports.
  • Cutter – Select this type when creating a Host or Share for a Cutter. Hosts or Shares will be offered when creating or editing a Cutting Device.

Checking the type

After performing an update, you should take a quick look at the assigned types for the respective Hosts, as migrating existing Hosts may have assigned the wrong type if they do not use unique names.

2.6. Send to Printer dialog

Starting with this version, an additional dialog can be opened in the Send to Printer dialog, which lists all imposed Print Items with their effective dimensions. Proceed as follows to open this dialog:

  1. Create a Production Job with several Print Items and select the required Output Settings required.
  2. Create an imposition for this Production Job and save it.
  3. In the Production Job, open the Send to Printer dialog. A list of the Print Items including copies, total  prints and the under– or overproduced quantity of the individual Print Items is displayed under the General tab.
  4. Click on the Details button (below the list) to access the Print Item Information dialog. In the opened dialog all imposed Print Items are listed. For each Print Item the effective size of the ImageBox and also the size of the ImageBox + Bleed is displayed.

2.7. Fixups

In this version, existing Fixups have been revised or condensed, as well as additional Fixups have been added to the Workflow.

2.7.1. New Fixups

In version 1.10.0, two new Fixups were added specifically designed to suit customers' needs.

Set RGB–Vector/Text to knockout

The Set RGB Vector/Texts to knockout Fixup sets RGB vector objects and RGB texts that are set to Overprint (OPM 0 or OPM 1) to knockout. This prevents different results when RGB vector or text objects have been set to overprint by the authors.

PMS WebGui :: Data Preparation

Availability

This Fixup is only available to customers with a Workflow Plus license under the Data Preparation tab. This Fixup can also be used in Fixup Chains.

Delete Pages

With this Fixup you can delete single pages as well as a range of pages contained in a multi–page PDF file. This allows you to automatically get rid of unnecessary pages, when using a Fixup Chain for example, before splitting a multi–page PDF file.

This Fixup is only available to customers with a Workflow Plus license under the Data Preparation tab. This Fixup can also be used in Fixup Chains.

2.7.2. Improvements to existing Fixups

Some existing Fixups have been renamed, deleted, moved to other selection lists and their functionality has been extended. You can find out which Fixups are affected below.

Rotate and/or Mirror Page

Two existing Fixups Rotate Page and Flip Page have been removed from this version of the Workflow because they are obsolete. These Fixups have been replaced by a new Fixup called Rotate and/or Mirror Page, which was added some time ago. For existing installations, these two Fixups will still be present in the system, but will no longer be displayed in the detail view for both Print Items and Articles under the Document Information and User–defined Fields area under the Rotate and Mirror drop–down list.

Internal renaming of the variable

If you previously used Rotate and/or Mirror Page in a Fixup Chain, we ask you to check this Fixup Chain whether all values are set correctly in the Fixup. If one of the two selection menus does not show an entry, select the desired entry again. An empty entry means that the Fixup cannot be applied.

The cause of this behavior happens when a variable is renamed internally, specifically for the variable for »do not mirror«.

Set Scale Factor

In addition to the existing scaling factors of: 1:2, 1:5 and 1:10, a scaling factor of 1:4 is also now available. Users can access the scaling factor under Automation > Force Print as well as in the detail view via the Set Scale Factor Fixup.

Create Spot Color separation depending on Total Ink Coverage

This Fixup has been moved to the Spot Colors panel of the Print Item and Article detail view. Previously, this Fixup could be selected and applied under the Spot Color Tools drop–down list. As of this version, this Fixup can be found under the Additional Channels drop–downlist (formerly called Create White and Varnish).

Fill Closed Path with Spot Color

The Fill silhouette with Spot Color Fixup was renamed to Fill Closed Path with Spot Color. This was necessary because users misunderstood the Fixup that it could be used to create a white channel for irregular shapes defined using a Spot Color for example.  The new naming should replace the description "Creates a separation using the selected Spot Color for the shapes of a closed path. Use this Fixup, for example, to fill the contents of a Dieline with "white".

2.8. Rest API

In this version, additional areas of the Rest API have been edited and extended. New features and changes are listed below.

2.8.1. New Functions

Subscription Controller API

POST /api/v1/subscribers/{id}/subscriptions/create – It is now possible to create subscriptions to Substrate Categories, Substrates and Substrate Definitions in order to communicate changes or deletions in a connected system. A new topic has been implemented for this purpose. A subscription to REPO/* allows the user to monitor all changes to the above entities.

Article Controller API

POST /api/v1/articles/{id}/inkUsages/create – Added the ability to use Save Ink Profiles when calculating Ink Costs for Articles.

Motif Controller API

POST /api/v1/motifs/{id}/inkUsages/create – Added the ability to use Save Ink Profiles when calculating Ink Costs for Print Items.

Production Job Controller API

POST /api/v1/productionJobs/{id}/inkUsages/create – Added the ability to use Save Ink Profiles when calculating Ink Costs for Production Jobs.

2.8.2. Improvements

In this section, you can read about improvements that have been implemented in the Rest API.

Subscription Controller API

When imposing a Production Job, in some cases two status changes were transmitted with the status IMPOSED. This has been optimized and only one callback is now sent.

2.9. SDK Versions

With version 1.10.0 two new SDK versions are available, in which enige errors on the part of the manufacturers were repaired. The following updates are available in this version:

  • Color Logic SDK 1.16.10–39977
  • Callas – pdfToolBox 12.3
  • Global Graphics – HHR 13.01

3. Improvements

In version 1.10.0 of the Workflow, further minor improvements are available, these are:

3.1. Cutfile Name and Barcode Content

The name of the Cutfile is generated automatically by the Workflow. This name contains a certain sequence of numbers or characters, which is also used as the content of the Barcodes or QR codes, among other things. In the course of the developing this version, the name was adapted with regard to »contains a certain number or character sequence« or the »content of the barcode or QR code«, so that problems can be avoided.

From this version on, the name of the cutfile, which is now the same as the content of the barcode, can be configured by the user by putting placeholders together. The following placeholders are available for configuring the cutfile name:

  • ${day2digit} – Two numbers from the date, which output the current day – for example: 24
  • ${month2digit} – Two numbers from the date, which output the current month – e.g.: 07
  • ${year2digit} – Two numbers from the date that output the current year – for example: 21
  • ${year4digit} – Four numbers from the date that output the current year – for example: 2021
  • ${cutterJobId} – A consecutive number that automatically increments by 1 when a new cutfile is created from the same Production Job – e.g.: 8
  • ${cutterJobId3digit} – A three–digit number that automatically increments by 1 when a new cutfile is created from the same Production Job – e.g.: 008
  • ${cutterJobId4digit} – A four digit number which automatically increments by 1 when a new cutfile is created from the same Production Job – e.g.: 0008
  • ${cutterJobId5digit} – A five digit number which automatically increments by 1 when a new cutfile is created from the same Production Job – e.g.: 00008
  • ${productionJobId} – The internal ID of the Production Job that will be transferred to the printer/cutter – for example: 235
  • ${jobTicketName} – The name of the Production Job Job-Ticket that will be transferred to the printer.
  • ${pageAppendix} – The current page numbering if a multi–page imposition or document is being transferred – e.g.: p3
  • ${rotationKey} – The rotation of the cutfile (if existing) – e.g.: 5 or 0 (used for Summa cutters)
  • ${cutterBarcodeContent} or ${barcodeCutterFilename} (deprecated) – The content of the barcode (if existing). This placeholder can only be used for the cutfile name itself – not for the cutter barcode content obviously – e.g.: 210724008235

Edit this string using the following steps:

  1. Select the Administration > Cutter Devices menu item.
  2. Create a new Cutter Device under the Devices panel or select an existing Parameter Set or create a new one under the Parameter Set panel.
  3. Select a Parameter Set under the Parameter Set panel.
  4. Under the Parameters panel, select Barcode Content and click on Edit in the footer of the panel.

PMS WebGui :: Cutter Devices
  1. In the Edit Cutter Parameter dialog, custom name content can be configured manually by lining up individual placeholders.
  2. Of course, you can also insert static text , e.g.: name of the cutter, at the beginning, at the end or between the placeholders to make the name even more unique.

3.2. Spot measurement with the Barbieri LFPqb on the measurement table

As of version 1.10.0, the Barbieri LFPqb measurement device for Spot Color measurements can also be positioned manually on the measurement table. Previously, this was only possible by removing the measurement device from the holder. Proceed as follows:

  1. Navigate to the Administration > Measurement Devices menu item.
  2. Add the Barbieri Spectro LFP qb measurement device (auto measurement) if needed or add a new Parameter Set in the Workflow.
  3. In the Parameters panel for the desired measurement device, check whether the Manual Positioning parameter is set to true.
  4. Open a Print Item or Article in the Workflow that contains at least one Spot Color.
  5. Select the Create and edit Spot Color definition option under the Spot Color panel.
  6. Select a Spot Color.
  7. Create a new definition for either: Customer, Print Item or Substrate.
  8. Select the measurement device in the footer of the Edit Spot Color Definition dialog.
  9. Then select the Parameter Set to be used for measuring.
  10. Start the measurement by pressing the Start measuring button.
  11. Follow the instructions in the dialog for manually positioning the measurement device.
  12. Perform the measurement.

PMS WebGui :: Spot Color Definition

3.3. Fixup Chains

From this version onwards, a Fixup Chain can be selected when uploading an Article or a Print Item, also when creating an Order or a Production Job. Selecting a Fixup Chain is available from this version on in the following dialogs:

  • Article > + New > File Properties
  • Order > + New > Print Item
  • Production Job > + New > Print Item

The selected Fixup Chain will be applied to Articles or Print Items during the check–in process. In order for a FIxup Chain to be selectable, it must be previously defined in the system. You can read more about this in the article Fixup Chains.

3.4. Substrate Costs

For Substrates defined in the Workflow, Substrate Costs using the selected currency defined in the system settings, can be defined per square meter as of this version. In future versions, these can be used in the Print Statistics tab of a Production Job. Define Substrate costs as follows:

  1. Select the Administration > Substrate menu item.
  2. Select a Substrate Category and a Substrate.
  3. Click Edit in the Substrates panel footer.
  4. Enter a price per square meter in the Substrate Cost input field.
  5. Save your settings.

3.5. Displaying the effective size of Print Items

In the Print Items tab of the Impose Editor, the effective size (including the scale factor in the imposition) for the ImageBox as well as for the production format ImageBox + Bleed are displayed as of this version.

3.6. Supported Data Types

As of version 1.10.0, .ps and .postscript files can be uploaded in the Workflow. These file types can be uploaded in all locations in the Workflow.

Mime Type »PostScript«

EPS files are Marked with the Mime Type »PostScript« when uploaded via the REST API. By supporting this Mime Type, EPS files can now also be processed in the Workflow via the REST API.

3.7. Minor Improvements

The following minor improvements have been implemented in this version.

3.7.1. Workflow

Primer for Delta–SPC Print Systems

When creating a Color Setup, a percentage value for Primer coverage can be defined under the Primer Profiling step. As of this version, this value can no longer be changed once the first measurement has been performed when profiling.

Multi-selecting Print Items in Orders or Production Jobs

Until this version, the checkbox next to the currently selected Print Item was automatically activated. In this version, this behavior has been changed. The checkbox next to the currently selected Print Item is no longer activated automatically, instead, the currently selected Print Item is indicated visually using a highlighted border. Additionally, multiple Print Items can be selected across pages by activating the checkbox.

Ink savings with MultiColor Color Setups

After testing the Ink Save feature using MultiColor Color Setups, e.g. CMYK–OVG, we discovered that the separation of converted Spot Colors shift too much. To prevent this, the MulticolorGeneration parameter has been changed. This value has been set to 1 in this version and corresponds to the Preserve Color Properties function in CoPrA software.

3.7.2. Impose Editor

Captions

In the Impose Editor, the Caption Placeholder Page Number Current can be used to display the page number for the imposition. When using Nesting > Double–sided Output, this »Frontside« and the second page is »Backside« instead of »1« and »2«.

4. Fixed Bugs

The following errors (bugs) have been fixed in this release.

4.1. Adobe Illustrator Plug–In

Output Configuration: The Output Configuration could not be selected when a Production Job was created in the Plug–in. This bug has been fixed.

4.2. Workflow

Image–based Color Correction: When creating an image–based color correction, the device link profile could not be created. An error occurred, which has been fixed with this version.

Zünd Cutter Material: Sometimes the Cutter Material could not be changed after imposing. This error has also been fixed.

Output Template: Sometimes the target directory could not be saved correctly if the Color Policy or Color Setup was assigned to an explicit target directory. This behavior has been corrected.

Status change for Articles: If multiple Articles were selected in the Article List and the status of all of them was changed, the result could sometimes not be saved or displayed correctly. This error has been fixed.

Hotfolder updates: In some cases, Print Items or documents currently being processed were displayed in incorrect columns or lists. These columns and lists were not updated correctly. The behavior has been optimized.

Hotfolder Output Template: Errors occurred when saving the Output Configuration of a Hotfolder. Among other things, the target directory could not be set correctly in some cases. The errors have been fixed.

Article List Spot Colors: Any changes to Spot Colors contained in Articles required a page refresh so that the changes were visible in the Article List.

Article List: Articles that had the status Unavailable can now be displayed again from this version when using a filter containing this status.

Summa Cutter: From this version on, multi–page documents with different page sizes can be correctly sent to the cutter.

DeviceN Spot Colors: An error occurred when editing a DeviceN Spot Color that defined only one color. As of this version, DeviceN Spot Colors with only one value can now be created and applied correctly.

DeviceN Lab fallback: The Lab fallback color value of a DeviceN Spot Color is calculated absolute–colorimetric instead of relative–colorimetric starting from this version.

Print Simulation: Print Simulations could only be used once in a Production Job. This error has been fixed.

Substrate import for TAU printing systems: An error occurred when printer substrates were imported into the Workflow based on the unit »inch«. This error has been fixed.

Fixup Chains: Sometimes the defined values in Fixups that were add to a Fixup Chain were not saved correctly. The behavior has been corrected.

Fixup – Create Bleed on Irregular Shape: This Fixup could not be used if the document used a white, non–printable, background. From this version on, white, non–printable, areas can be included or excluded. Furthermore, the Bleed can be created behind the existing page content. The default behavior has not changed.

Fixup – Add Pole Pockets: This Fixup created objects outside the MediaBox, which caused a warning to be displayed after rechecking the pdf in. This behavior has been corrected.

4.3. Impose Editor

Changing Impose Size: From this version on, after entering the impose sheet size under width and/or height and entering TAB and/or ENTER, the setting is accepted and displayed.

Add Grommets: When Grommets were created in the Impose Editor, the center Grommets were not placed precisely in the center. This bug has been fixed in this version.

Grommets in Tiling: If Grommets were added in Tiling mode and the Print Item was scaled, the Grommets were not placed correctly. This bug has also been fixed.

Print Item Rotation using Double–sided Output: When using Double–sided Output, if the option Non-uniform Rotation was selected under Nesting Options, Print Items were sometimes not rotated correctly, so that Print Items on the front no longer matched the Print Items on the back. This behavior has been corrected.

Tabbing between input fields: Tabbing between input fields in the Impose Editor was not working correctly, now the user can use TAB and/or ENTER from this version on.

5. Hotfixes

The name for the July 01, 2021 release was DW Build 1.10.0.(379). The following hotfixes were fixed in the following subversions:

5.1. DW Version 1.10.0.(388)

Barbieri Measurement Devices: The live preview of the measurement data when measuring a Profile was displayed incorrectly. This was fixed by a Barbieri SDK update.

Save Ink: If a Save Ink (Low, Medium, Extreme) was saved in an Output Template, then it was not correctly applied to the Production Job.

Enable Color Management: This option in the Output Configuration was disabled as soon as another Output Template was selected. After a refresh, it was enabled again.

Output Templates: When updating from 1.9.0 (or earlier) to 1.10.0, the Output Templates disappeared. This was due to a erroneous migration process, which has to be executed again from this version on.

If this is the case, then TeamViewer data of the affected Workflow is needed. A technician will run the (corrected) migration again manually.
