1. General

The purpose of this Fixup is to adjust the size of the final format frame (TrimBox) for production and to define values for the BleedBox.

This Fixup is useful when, after checking in print data, it turns out that the TrimBox is not set to the desired size and needs to be adjusted. Furthermore, there is a Bleed available, but the BleedBox is not set correctly in reference to the TrimBox.

The Fixup can be found in the footer of the Document Information and User-defined Fields area in the Print Data tab of Articles,  Production Jobs or Orders or under the Data Preparation tab.

2. Fixup Description

This Fixup adjusts the size of the TrimBox by moving the frame for the specified page and sets the BleedBox using the specified distance from the TrimBox. This does not allow you to enter an absolute size for the TrimBox, but only to move the selected page(s), using either a »+« to increase and a »-« to decrease the size. Existing page geometry boxes are not affected by this Fixup, unless the size of the TrimBox moves beyond that of the Media- or BleedBox. In this case, the Media- and BleedBoxes will be adjusted accordingly.

2.1. Requirements and Operation

In order for this Fixup to function correctly, the following requirements must be met:

  • The Print Item must have a defined TrimBox.
  • The Print Item should already contain the appropriate Bleed, since the Fixup does not create additional Bleed itself.

You can choose from the following options (unlocking the lock icon allows setting individual inputs):

TrimBox

  • Top – Moves the top edge of the TrimBox (»+« up or »-« down)
  • Bottom Moves the bottom edge of the TrimBox (»+« up or »-« down)
  • Left – Moves the left edge of the TrimBox (»+« up or »-« down)
  • Right – Moves the right edge of the TrimBox (»+« up or »-« down)

BleedBox

  • Top – Creates the BleedBox using the defined distance from the TrimBox on the top edge.
  • Bottom – Creates the BleedBox using the defined distance from the TrimBox on the bottom edge.
  • Left – Creates the BleedBox using the defined distance from the TrimBox on the left edge.
  • Right – Creates the BleedBox using the defined distance from the TrimBox on the right edge.

The easiest way to create a TrimBox is to use the Fixups: Set TrimBox to Dieline, Derive Page Geometry Boxes from CropMarks, Derive a PageBox from Colored Objects or Set Page Geometry Boxes.

2.2. Before/After

In the source file »Yard_Sign_no_Bleed_Start.pdf« the TrimBox is too large, with an effective width of 560 mm and a height of 400 mm; the BleedBox has the same size as the TrimBox, but existing Bleed in the file will suffice.

Since the Print Item will be clamped in a 560 x 390 mm stretcher frame, the height of the TrimBox must be reduced slightly and the BleedBox must be set for the existing Bleed. By moving the lower and upper edges by -5 mm each, the TrimBox should match the exact height needed. For this purpose, the BleedBox is offset by 10 mm from the effective TrimBox.

By applying the Fixup, the corrected version »Yard_Sign_no_Bleed_End.pdf« is created. By applying the Fixup, the MediaBox and the BleedBox are automatically set to the size of the BleedBox.
