1. Introduction
In the Workflow the Fixup Create Bleed by Upscaling is available. The purpose of this Fixup is to add required Bleed by scaling the content and simultaneously restrict to a maximum distortion.
2. General
The Fixup Create Bleed by Scaling can be used if you want to create the missing Bleed of a Print Item by scaling the content. If a Bleed already exists, it is extended by the specified value.
This FIxup can be found in the footer of the Document Information and User-defined Fields area in the Add Bleed Fixup group of an Article, Production Job or Order or in the Data Preparation tab.
3. Fixup Description
With this Fixup, a Bleed is created in the specified size, while minimizing the amount of distortion by scaling the Print Item within a certain range. This procedure can be chosen only if the dimensions in terms of width and height of the Print Item are not too different. Another requirement is that there is no important information in the border area of the Print Item. The latter can lead to the information being cut off during the finishing process.
Fixup is blocked/not selectable
Note that the Fixup will not be executed in certain cases and is blocked or greyed out. This happens when the proportions between width and height are so different that distortion of the Print Item would be greater than the allowed value.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
In order for this Fixup to function correctly, the following requirements must be met:
- The Print Item does not have a Bleed applied.
- The width and height of the Print Item do not differ too much.
- Important information is not too close to the edge of the printed part of the Print Item.

Choose from the following options:
- Required Bleed [1] – enter the size of the Bleed that should be created. The Bleed is created on all four edges, in the specified value, starting from the TrimBox. All other Page Boxes are adjusted accordingly. For the Variable Content [3], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the required Bleed should be retrieved.
- Maximum Distortion [2] – determine the allowed distortion for a Print Item so that the Bleed can be created in the specified size. For the Variable Content [4], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the maximum distortion should be retrieved.

3.2. Before/After
In the source file "Yard_Sign_Start" all Page Boxes are on the same position. The Print Item is 560 x 400 mm, the Bleed which is needed for production is missing.
The Print Item should be printed with an additional Bleed of 10 mm on each side so that the printed medium can be inserted in a frame with the dimensions 560 x 400 mm without a visible white border (flash). Since there is enough margin between the text or the black oval and the border, the required 10 mm Bleed can be created by scaling the Print Item.
Applying the Fixup with the settings from Figure 1 creates the corrected version "Yard_Sign_End". The black oval at the top and the telephone number at the bottom still contain enough distance to the Imposition's frame.
