1.2 Compatible Data Formats

Internally, all formats are converted to PDF. However, the original is also saved and can be downloaded from the workflow at any time. However, working files and all generated versions are already PDF.

The following file types can be uploaded to the workflow for editing:

Extension Data Type Description
PDF Portable Document Format Our preferred format. Created for graphics and layout programs. Provides all the features needed to create high-quality, device-independent, highly reproducible documents. Provides support for vector- and bitmap-based graphic elements, Spot Colors, and Technical Colors for further processing.

JPG / JPEG
Joint Photographic (Expert) Group
Very widespread, lossy image format for storing RGB images. Offers good compression with increasing loss of quality. No archive format, with the correct resolution very suitable for printing applications.

EPS
Encapsulated Postscript
Obsolete, formerly widely used composite format for storing vector and/or bitmap elements. Replaced by PDF.
AI
Adobe Illustrator
The native document format of Adobe Illustrator. Based on PDF, the workflow converts to lossless PDF's.
PNG
Portable Network Graphics
Bitmap format, lossless compression, 16bit support. Pay attention to the resolution.

TIF / TIFF
Tagged Image File (Format)
Very versatile, flexible format for storing images. RGB, CMYK and other color spaces possible, any bit depth (1bit, 8bit, 16bit, 32bit) allowed. Layers are reduced to the background layer. Pay attention to the resolution.

PSD
Photoshop Document
The native document format of Adobe Photoshop. Can contain image- and vector-based elements. Reduced from Workflow to background level. Resolution is important with PSD files!
