Image editing should be done with professional tools as it is mostly not sufficient to just lighten or darken. In the PDF Editor, it is possible to export or replace individual images. In addition, the user can edit images in an image editing program of their choice and replace them in the PDF file.

The following image formats are available for Exporting as well as for Replacing images

• TIFF - which stands for Tagged Image File Format. TIFF is a flexible raster image format that saves high-quality image data for post-processing without any loss of quality. The Color Spaces Grayscale, RGB and CMYK can be processed.
• JPEG - which stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. Since the introduction of digital cameras, JPEG is probably one of the most popular file formats for images. This file type supports the Color Spaces Grayscale, RGB or CMYK. JPEG files are always compressed with lossy compression, which can drastically reduce the file size.
• PNG - which stands for Portable Network Graphic. PNG is often used to display high-quality images on websites. This format offers lossless compression. PNG supports the Color Spaces Grayscale and RGB as well as transparencies.

If you want to export an image from a page for use in other programs, proceed as follows:

1. Select the page in the PDF on which the desired image is located.
2. Switch to the Images tab [1]. All image files on the current page of the document are displayed here.
3. Right-click on the desired image file to open the context menu [2], select either the Export..., Export and Open… or the Replace... option.
4. Click on Export... [3] - this will take you to the document explorer.

5. Enter a file name [4] for the image.
6. Select a storage location for the file. Click on the arrow [5] to open the entire Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS).
7. Select the desired image format for export by clicking on the selection menu [6].
8. Click on Save [7] to export the selected image file.

In the PDF Editor, individual images can be replaced by others. Thereby it is possible to quickly replace each individual image on the current page of the PDF file. At the same time the user can open another image that is available in a supported file format without having to open another program.

To replace a single image on the current page of a PDF file, proceed as follows:

1. Select the page in the PDF on which the desired image is located.
2. Switch to the Images tab [8]. All image files on the current page of the document are displayed here.
3. Right-click on the desired image file to open the context menu [9].  Select either the Export..., Export and Open... or the Replace... option.
4. Click on Replace... [10] - this will take you to the document explorer.

5. Select the desired file to replace the image in the PDF file.
6. Click on the Open button [11] to replace the selected image in the PDF file.

If images in the PDF file need to be edited in detail, it is advisable to do this in an image editing application such as Adobe Photoshop. In the PDF Editor, it is possible to export individual images and open them in the underlying image editing application in the same step.

To export images and open them in an image editing program of your choice, proceed as follows:

1. Select the page in the PDF on which the desired image is located.
2. Switch to the Images tab [12]. All image files on the current page of the document are displayed here.
3. Right-click on the desired image file to open the context menu [13]. Therein, select either the Export..., Export and Open... or the Replace... option.
4. Click on Export and Open... [14] - this will take you to the document explorer.

5. Enter a file name [15] for the image.
6. Select the desired image file format for the export by clicking on the selection menu [16].
7. Click Save [17] to export the selected image file.

8. The exported image now opens in the application that you have selected on your operating system as the standard program for editing image files for the selected file format. After editing, import the image via the Replace... function in the PDF Editor and replace it with the desired image file.
