In this article, you will learn
- which Checks are available in Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates with regard to Sizes, and
- which solutions are provided to fix the detected issues.
1. Introduction
When print files are uploaded to the Workflow, the documents are checked using Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates to identify potential errors or warnings at the very beginning of the production process. These errors and warnings can be displayed on the respective page within the Workflow and provided to the customer as a PDF report for further clarification.
The Preflight check of the print file is based on the activated checks and the severity levels defined for each individual check – Error, Warning, or Info.
2. Available Checks for Sizes
To take full advantage of a Check-in Preflight and Fixup Template, these Templates must first be created. A Template essentially consists of Checks and Fixups. Currently, the Workflow offers more than 58 Checks. To maintain a clear overview, the individual Checks have been divided into different categories.
This article provides a detailed description of all Checks assigned to the category Sizes.
2.1. Size Check
Category: Object, Page Content
Description: This check verifies the dimensions of the selected PageBox in relation to the entered values for Width and Height. Using the option Use Width and Height (TrimBox) from first Page, multipage documents can be checked for consistent size based on the height and width of the first page of the document. An additional Tolerance can also be taken into account. If the page orientation is irrelevant, the option Ignore orientation can be activated to check pages in different orientations.
Solution: If the print file does not have the correct size, it can be adjusted afterwards using one of the Fixups "Scale Page Content Absolute", "Scale Page Content by Percentage", or "Scale Page Content – Width and Height". In some cases, it may also be helpful to create a Bleed using the Fixups "Create Bleed" or "Add Bleed on Irregular Shape".

2.2. Page size and/or orientation not equal
Category: Page
Description: This Check verifies whether all pages of a multipage print file have the same page size and orientation. Variations in size and orientation can lead to undesired results during further processing – such as when applying Fixups or performing Imposition.
Solution: If there are only minor differences between the individual pages, the print file can be adjusted afterwards for all pages using the Fixup "Set PageBoxes". In case of significant differences, the multipage document can be split into individual Print Items, and the desired PageBoxes and rotations can be applied to each.
