The PDF Workflow is a complete production system: from uploading data, Preflighting and correction with Fixups, preparation of print-ready files and rendering of print data, all process steps are mapped. However, there are a number of prerequisites that need to be met for the application to function correctly. In this article, you will learn how to prepare your system for application of the Workflow.
1. Before Installing
The installation of the Workflow is always carried out by a technician. In order for the technician to start the installation, the following prerequisites should be met:
- Please ensure that there is a network connection from the Workstation(s) to the Workflow and from the Workflow to the Printer. The network must be configured accordingly.
- Static IP addresses should be defined in advance for the printer, the Workflow server and optionally for an IP-enabled measurement device.
- Specific network ports should be available to access Workflow resources.
- During installation and for support purposes, the Workflow server or client must be accessible via Teamviewer. Therefore, the server must be allowed access to the Internet – at minimum on a temporary basis.
- Activation and retrieval of the license is carried out online. Therefore, the server musst have access to the Internet.
2. Setting Up the Printer
The setup of the Printer within the Workflow will be performed by a technician or the IT.
If you want to access Durst Analytics a service can be installed on the Printer's Workstations for Durst Printers.
3. Setting up a Measurement Device
A connection must be established between the Workflow and the measurement device to be used.
Different connection options are available depending on the manufacturer and the measuring device:
3.1. USB
Measuring devices that are connected via USB must be made available on the workflow server. If the device cannot be connected directly to the computer, it is possible to connect the measuring device to the server via a USB device server with a virtual USB interface. A standard USB device server with a network interface is sufficient for this purpose.
For measurement devices with a USB connection, the corresponding drivers must be installed on the Workflow server in advance.
- Barbieri Spectro Driver (optional Barbieri Gateway)

USB connections using virtual environments
For remote connections, it is essential to use a USB device server to connect the instrument to the Durst Workflow Server.
3.2. LAN
No further drivers need to be installed for the Konica Minolta FD9 device.
Here, it is sufficient to enter the static IP address of the device under Administration > Measurement Devices > Device Panel.
The Barbieri Spectro LFP qb measurement device can also be controlled via the built-in LAN interface.
The user must follow the same procedure as mentioned above to link the IP address to the device.
3.3. Serial Port
Some measuring devices, such as the CM2300D from Konica Minolta, are controlled via the serial port.
All required configuration files for these serial encoders are already available in the Workflow.
