1.2 User Interface of Grid Chart management

Updated on

In this article you will learn

  • where Grid Charts are managed and
  • how the user interface for areas with Grid Charts is structured.

1. General

Grid Charts are managed in the Color > Color Books & Grid Charts menu item. In addition to the management of Color Books and the possibility to Measure Color Books, two more tabs - Grid Chart and Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart - are available in this area for the management of Grid Charts.

While all standard Grid Charts are managed in the Grid Chart tab, the Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart tab manages the two Grid Chart types Grid Chart of Tonal Values and Grid Chart of overprinting Spot Colors. The latter have only found their way into the Workflow with version 1.14.0.

The user interface of the Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart tab is described in detail below.

2. User Interface "Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart"

To create a Tonal Value or Spot Color overprinting Grid Chart, you need to go to the Color > Verifictions menu. The menu item's user interface has five subsections.

  • Header [1] - Allows the user to quickly see which menu item is currently selected.
  • Filter and Search Bar [2] - Allows to filter, search and sort the list of Grid Charts.
  • Action bar [3] - Allows to perform an action on selected Grid Charts, create a new Grid Chart as well as customize the list view to your way of working.
  • Pagination with list display limitation [5] - Allows to limit the list display to a certain number of records as well as to scroll between the individual pages.
  • List [4]- List of currently filtered Grid Charts.

The individual sections (except for the head section) are described in more detail below, along with a discussion of their functions.

2.1. Filter and Search bar

The filter and search bar can be used to filter, search and sort the list of Verifications. The following functions are available for the user:

Figure 2: The filter and search bar of the Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart tab in the Color > Color Books & Grid Charts menu.

Set Filter [6]- By clicking the Set Filter button, various filters can be selected to filter the list of Grid Charts. The filters can be configured and saved individually and user-defined so that they can be accessed at any time. The following filters are available:

  • Created by - Selection list with exclude function
  • Modified - Selection of a date
  • Changed by - Selection list with exclude function

Delete filter [8] - Currently active filters can be removed together by pressing the button. Removing a single filter criterion can be done by clicking on the "X " [7] in the respective filter criterion.

Refresh Display [9] - By pressing the Refresh Display button, the list view is updated. This is necessary in some cases, for example if another user or you yourself, have created a new Grid Chart in a duplicated tab.

Sort [11] - By selecting an entry in the list, it is possible to select the field on the basis of which the list is to be sorted. By pressing the button [10] the list can be sorted in descending or ascending order. The following sorting criteria are available:

  • Created
  • Created by
  • Modified

  • Type

Full text search [12] - The full text search can be used to filter entries. The definition in which fields can be searched can be determined in the Display Options.

Search function settings [13] - Full text search can be parameterized with the settings. You can choose between Standard and Exact.

  • Standard: The entered text characters are searched for, regardless of whether there is another character before or after them.
  • Exact: The entered text characters are searched for, whereby no further character may be located before or after them. In addition, characters like "%" and "_" can be used to search even more specifically.

2.2. Action bar

The action bar contains the actions that can be applied to selected list entries and to create a new list entry. Some of them can also be applied to several selected entries. The following actions are available:

Display options [21]  - In the display options, the filter and search bar can be configured. Filter and search bar options and search options can be configured.  The options available in the display options are described below.

2.2.1. Filter and Search bar options

In this area, options of the filter and search bar can be hidden or shown. The following options are offered in this tab:

  • Enable page navigation - by enabling the option, the user can navigate between the individual pages of the list.
  • Refresh Display - by activating the option, the icon for refreshing the display will be available to the user in the Action bar.

2.2.2. Search Options

In this area you can select which properties should be included in the full text search. The following options are available in it:

  • Created by - The entered text will also be searched in the database field for the name of the user who created the Grid Chart.
  • Modified by - The entered text will be searched also in the database field for the name of the user who last modified the Grid Chart.
  • Name - The entered text is also searched in the database field for the name of the Grid Chart.

Display of actions per list entry

In the current implementation, the action bar functions are still displayed for each individual record. This happens as soon as you move the mouse pointer over the record. In the final implementation of the new user interface 2.0, this will no longer be necessary, as the action bar will always be accessible below the header area. This is independent of where you are currently in the list.

2.3. Pagination with list display limitation

In this area of the action bar, you can switch between the individual pages of the display [22] and set how many Grid Charts are to be displayed in the list per page [23]. How many Grid Charts are available in total for the filtered area can be read out in the last entry [24].

2.4. List of Grid Charts

For each Grid Chart, an entry is created in the list. The entries can be filtered, sorted and searched as described above. Which entries are displayed in the list is therefore always dependent on what is set in the filter and search bar.

Figure 10: The list view of the filtered Grid Charts in the Workflow

The following information can be displayed in the list:

Color display - By displaying the color, users can find the desired Grid Chart more quickly. In addition, it is immediately recognizable whether you are dealing with a Grid Chart of Tonal Values (a filled area [27]) or with a Grid Chart of overprinting Spot Colors (two color halves with the base color [30] as well as the overprinting color [31]).

Name [26] - the name of the Grid Chart.

Grid Chart Type [28] [32] - Whether it is a Grid Chart of Tonal Values or a Grid Chart of an overprinting Spot Color is visualized by the name of the Type.

Base Color [25] - The color as well as the name of the Spot Color of the base color is visualized via the symbol.

Overprinting Spot Color [29] - the color and the name of the Spot Color of the overprinting Spot Color will be displayed on the icon.

Origin [33] - The entry of the Print Item name as well as the Print Item ID is only made if the Grid Chart was created from the detail view of a Print Item. If this entry is missing, the Grid Chart was created via the Color > Color Books & Grid Chart menu item in the Tonal Value/Overprint Grid Chart tab.
