Ink consumption is a crucial topic in digital printing as it directly influences commercial aspects. These aspects include business models, running costs, ROI, margin calculation, footprint reduction, and environmental impact calculations of the final printed products.
In this technical note, we will illustrate all aspects of the different parameters which influence ink consumption.
Ink in general seems to play the central role when talking about ink consumption. This is only partially true as actually certain ink properties affect ink consumption. However, certain ink properties can't be varied unlimitedly as this would negatively affect ink and applicational properties.
Note that many different setting adjustments that are independent of the selected ink type and printer platform are possible.
The contribution of various parameters to ink consumption can be summarized as follows and is also available in the section "Ink Consumption - myths vs. facts":
Each section has an impact and respective reduction potential on ink consumption.
