2. New Features
With version 1.6.9 some new features in comparison to version 1.5.0 are available.
2.1. Dealing with Adobe Illustrator files or PDF files with AI information
The following new features in the handling of files from Adobe Illustrator have been implemented:
2.1.1. Opening Adobe Illustrator files
Adobe Illustrator files can now be easily opened in the PDF Editor and saved again as PDF. When opening, it is important to note that the entry Other File Types [1] is selected instead of PDF-Documents.
Figure 1: The Open dialog in macOS. Apart from PDF also further file types can be converted to PDF
Handling other file types
The PDF Editor can interpret various file formats and convert them to a PDF when opened. The following file formats are supported:
- .ai - native Adobe Illustrator file
- .eps - Encapsulated PostScript files - an exchange format based on PostScript for a single page
- .ps - PostScript files - a page description language for Adobe PostScript enabled printers (can contain multiple pages)
- .xps - XML Paper Specification files - a PDF-like format from Microsoft
- .pcl - Printer Command Language - a page description language for printers from Hewlett Packard
- .pxl - PCLXL file - an extension to PCL
2.1.2. Remove Adobe Illustrator information while saving
PDF files that are exported from Adobe Illustrator are saved with a PDF and an Adobe Illustrator part by default. This means that PDF files that were edited in the PDF Editor and then opened in Illustrator do not adopt these changes. For counteraction, the Illustrator part of the file is now removed when saving.
2.2. New features in the "Thumbnails" tab
By right-click within the Thumbnails tab it's possible to access advanced functions.
2.2.1. Apply to selected pages
The following two functions can only be applied to multi-page documents:
- Set Page Boxes [2]: Select the desired pages in the Thumbnails tab and thereby set the desired Page Box to the selected pages.
- Set MediaBox to Origin [3]: Select the desired pages in the Thumbnails tab and thereby reset the MediaBox for the selected pages to Origin.

Note that an image must first be converted to a PDF using the Open Image File... menu command before it can be inserted using Insert Document....
- Warnings for deviating Page Boxes [4]: If the Page Boxes on a page differ from the first page in the document, a warning is displayed as of this version. The respective sizes of the Page Boxes are displayed in the alert dialog, which is displayed after a short time

However, if you want to see only the Spot Colors of the currently displayed page in the lists, we recommend disabling this option.

Complex files with different Spot Colors can quickly become confusing. Therefore, Spot Colors are sorted in the selection menu as follows:

- Standard Spot Colors [12] – these are the default Process Colors CMYK as well as the specific Spot Color Definitions None and All.
- System-wide Spot Colors [13] – these are the Spot Colors which can be established in Preferences in System Spot Colors
