Check the Size of the PageBox

Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • what this check verifies, and
  • how and where this check can be applied.

1. Introduction

With the check Check the Size of the PageBox, the dimensions – Height and Width – of a PageBox can be checked. This ensures that the Print Data meets the required specifications, providing a reliable basis for further decisions. The check can be configured for both defined sizes and ranges, and it provides a clear result that can be used to control the subsequent Workflow.

2. General

The check is available within Automation when creating a Production Configuration. The check is offered in the following Operations:

  • Check Print Item and Apply Fixups – this Operation checks the Print Item and defines which Fixup or Action will be applied in case of success, and which Fixup or Action will be applied in case of failure.
  • Check Print Item and apply Fixup Chain – this Operation checks the Print Item and defines which Fixup Chain or Action will be applied in case of success, and which Fixup Chain or Action will be applied in case of failure.
  • Check Print Item and forward to – this Operation checks the Print Item and defines which Production Configuration or Action will be applied in case of success, and which Production Configuration or Action will be applied in case of failure.

Production Configurations are used in the Workflow for the following areas:

  • Creating Automation Jobs – Applying Production Configurations to selected Articles or Print Items.
  • Batch Processing – Applying the selected Production Configuration to the Print Data to be processed.
  • Hotfolder – Applying the selected Production Configuration to the Print Data in a Hotfolder.

For details on how to create a Production Configuration, see the chapter Create Production Configuration.

Detailed Description of the individual Operations

A detailed description of all Operations available in a Production Configuration, as well as their correct application, can be found in the chapter Operation – Technical Description.

3. Description

With the check Check the Size of the PageBox can be verified whether the dimensions of the selected PageBox are greater than, smaller than, or equal to a specified tolerance. In addition, the file orientation – landscape or portrait – can be ignored during the check.

With this check, the dimensions of the selected PageBox can be verified. To perform the size check, the following options are available:

  • Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a Template and applied to other Articles/Print Items in the Operations Check Print Item and Apply Fixups, Check Print Item and apply Fixup Chain and Check Print Item and forward to.
  • PageBox to be checked [2] – use the dropdown menu to select the PageBox whose dimensions are to be verified. The following options are available:
    • TrimBox – checks the height and width of the TrimBox.
    • BleedBox – checks the height and width of the BleedBox.
    • CropBox – checks the height and width of the CropBox.
    • MediaBox – checks the height and width of the MediaBox.
    • Variable Content [8] – select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the PageBox to be checked should be taken. The selected field must contain one of the following values in order for the PageBox to be applied:
      • TrimBox
      • BleedBox
      • CropBox
      • MediaBox
  • PageBox is [3] – use the dropdown menu to select whether the PageBox should be greater than, smaller than, or equal to the entered values. The following options are available:
    • equal – the selected PageBox is the same size as the entered values for height and width.
    • less than or equal to – the selected PageBox is smaller than or equal to the values entered for height and width.
    • greater than or equal to – the selected PageBox is greater than or equal to the values entered for height and width.
    • Variable Content [9] – select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the condition should be be taken. The selected field must contain one of the following values in order for the condition to be applied:
      • equal
      • less_equal
      • greater_equal
  • Width [4] – enter the desired Width against which the selected PageBox should be checked. For Variable Content [10], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the width should be taken.
  • Height [5] – enter the desired Height against which the selected PageBox should be checked. For Variable Content [11], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the height should be taken.
  • Tolerance [6] – enter the tolerance to be considered during the check. For example, if a tolerance of 1 mm is defined, the selected PageBox may be 1 mm smaller or 1 mm larger than the defined dimension. For Variable Content [12], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the tolerance should be taken.
  • Ignore orientation [7] – enable this option if the file orientation – portrait or landscape – can be ignored.
