In this article, you will learn
- what is examined as part of this Check and
- how and where this Check can be applied.
1. Introduction
The check Check if Print Item is single-sided, double-sided or multipage verifies the number of pages in a print file. It determines whether the print file is single-sided, double-sided, or multipage.
2. General
The check is available within Automation when creating a Production Configuration. It can be used in the following Operations:
- Check Print Item and Apply Fixups – this Operation checks the Print Item and determines which Fixup or Action is applied when the checked value is present or not present.
- Check Print Item and Apply Fixup Chain – this Operation checks the Print Item and determines which Fixup Chain or Action is applied when the checked value is present or not present.
- Check Print Item and forward to – this Operation checks the Print Item and determines to which Production Configuration or Action the Print Item is forwarded when the checked value is present or not present.
Production Configurations are used in the Workflow in the following areas:
- Create Automation Jobs – applying Production Configurations to selected Articles or Print Items.
- Batch Processing– applying the selected Production Configuration to the print data to be processed.
- Hotfolder – applying the selected Production Configuration to print data in a Hotfolder.
- API – applying a Production Configuration to print data submitted to the application via the API.
For instructions on creating a Production Configuration, refer to the chapter Creating a Production Configuration.
Detailed Description of the Operations
A detailed description of all Operations available in a Production Configuration, as well as their correct usage, can be found in the chapter Operations – Technical Description.
3. Description
The check Check if Print Item is single-sided, double-sided, or multipage can be used to verify whether a print file has one, two, or multiple pages. When checking for multipage, the exact number of pages does not matter.

This check can be used to verify whether a print file contains multiple pages. The following options are available:
- Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a Template. These Templates can be applied to other Articles/Print Items in the Operations Check Print Item and Apply Fixups, Check Print Item and apply Fixup Chain, and Check Print Item and forward to.

- Is one-sided – the check is successful only if the print file contains exactly one page.
- Is double-sided – the check is successful only if the print file contains exactly two pages.
- Is multi-sided but not double-sided – the check is successful only if the print file contains more than two pages.
- Variable Content [3] – select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the pages to be checked should be retrieved. The following values must be present in the selected field for the correct page selection to be applied:
