This article explains
- how to set a scale factor,
- how to scale Print Items with an existing scaling factor to the desired size, and
- how to overwrite an existing scale factor.
1. Introduction
Due to technical limitations, very large Print Items are always created in a certain size ratio in the design programs – 1:10; 1:2, etc. For printing, the Print Items must ultimately be scaled to the production size. Whether this is done in the RIP or the Print Item should be brought to the final size beforehand depends on personal preference.
Resize Print Items to TrimBox in good time
However, we recommend that Print Items be resized to their final size at a very early stage, as this ensures that a resolution check and the setting of a specific Bleed can be verified or entered without thought.
2. General
The Fixup Set Scale Factor [1] is located in the footer of the Document Information and user-defined Fields area on the Print Data tab. In addition, you can also find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab, as well as in the Automation > Quick Print and Automation > Hotfolder menus in the Processing Parameters tab of the Hotfolder Setup dialog.

3. Set Scale Factor
The purpose of this Fixup is to scale a Print Item to its final size by setting a scale factor. The scale factor is written to the PDF in the form of a User Unit relative to the current size. The factor is multiplied by the current size of the software components that process the PDF, such as the Impose Editor or the RIP.

The scale factor should be set for each page
Please note that the page scale factor can vary from page to page in a multipage print file.
