In this article, you will learn
- which Grouping Options are available in Automation and
- how the selected options affect the processing of Print Items.
1. Introduction
In the automated processing of Production Jobs and Impositions automatically, it is necessary to define how Print Items are to be processed. There are two methods available:
- Process Print Items Continuously or
- Process Print Items as a Bundle.
Depending on the selected method, different options are available for certain Operations. This article provides a detailed description of the Grouping Options used when processing Print Items as a Bundle.
2. Initial Situation for Processing
To better understand the behavior of the Grouping Options, the following examples are used:
- Print Item 1 (M1) – three-page document
- Print Item 2 (M2) – single-page document
- Print Item 3 (M3) – two-page document
Figure 1: Start and end points of processing for the three Print Items
Description of the Figure
Before the Print Items are processed as a Bundle, the Print Items in our example go through the following three steps:
Step 1: Split into Single Pages
- M1 is split into three pages: M 1.1, M 1.2, and M 1.3.
- M2 remains unchanged.
- M3 is split into two pages: M 3.1 and M 3.2.
Step 2: Apply the Fixup "Tiling"
- M 1.1, M 1.2, and M 1.3 are individually tiled, resulting in three two-page documents.
- M2 does not need to be tiled because its size is smaller than the defined tile size.
- M 3.1 and M 3.2 are also not tiled.
Step 3: Re-Splitting Multipage Documents
- M 1.1, M 1.2, and M 1.3 are split again. The result is six single pages:
- M 1.1.1
- M 1.1.2
- M 1.2.1
- M 1.2.2
- M 1.3.1
- M 1.3.2
- M2 remains unchanged.
- M 3.1 and M 3.2 are already single-pages and are not split further.
3. Grouping Options
When creating a Production Job or an Imposition, you can define whether Print Items are processed continuously or as a Bundle.
For processing as a Bundle, three Grouping Options are available:
- Keep all Print Items Together
- For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item
- For Every Print Item
Additionally, you can specify whether the processing order should be preserved. If this option is enabled, the Print Items are processed in the order they were created – M 1.1.1 … 1.3.2 > M2 > M 3.1 … M3.2.
3.1. Keep all Print Items Together
If the option Keep all Print Items together is selected, all Print Items in the group are processed within a single Production Job or single Imposition.
The results, however, depend on whether no Imposition, a single-page Imposition, or a Multipage Imposition is created.
3.1.1. Create a Production Job Without an Imposition
When a Production Job is created without an Imposition using the Operation Create Production Job, only the processing of Print Items as a Bundle is available. If an Imposition is still created within the Production Job, the Processing Order within the Imposition is not preserved, because the placement order in an Imposition depends on the selected Impose Sheet Template.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- If the Grouping Option Keep all Print Items Together is selected, all Print Items are processed within a single Production Job.
- If the option Preserve Processing Order is not enabled, the order of Print Items in the Production Job is undefined. If the option is enabled, the Print Items are processed in chronological order within the Production Job.
Figure 2: The results of the Grouping Option Keep all Print Items Together in the Operation Create Production Job
Description of the Figure
The figure shows a Production Job created with three Print Items, including all split pages of the Print Items. The Print Items are color-coded to make it easier to identify the possible sequence of the Print Items in the Production Job. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may be arranged differently in the Production Job.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- A single Production Job is created containing all pages of the Print Items.
- The Print Items are displayed in the Production Job without a defined sequence.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- A single Production Job is created containing all pages of the Print Items.
- The Print Items are displayed in chronological order in the Production Job:
- First, all pages of Print Item 1 (purple)
- Next, the pages of Print Item 2 (orange)
- Finally, all pages of Print Item 3 (turquoise)
3.1.2. Create Imposition / Create Imposition with Auto Nesting using a Single-Page Imposition
When a single-page Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose, or when single-page Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Imposition is always created first and then passed to one or more Production Job(s) by applying the Operation Create Production Job from Imposition.
If not all Print Items can be placed on a single Imposition – for example, due to space constraints – additional Production Jobs are created, each with a single-page Imposition.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When a single-page Imposition is created using the Grouping Option Keep all Print Items Together, all Print Items are placed on a single Impose Sheet whenever possible.
- If there is not enough space on the Impose Sheet, a new Impose Sheet, a new Imposition – and therefore a new Production Job – is automatically created.
Figure 3: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: Results of the Grouping Option Keep All Print Items Together in the Operation Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
Explanation of the Figure:
The figure on the left shows a legend with the sizes of the Impose Sheet and the Print Items:
- Impose Sheet (gray): 1,000 × 1,000 mm
- Print Item 1 (purple): 6 pages, each 300 × 300 mm
- Print Item 2 (orange): 1 page, 200 × 200 mm
- Print Item 3 (turquoise): 2 pages, each 600 × 600 mm
The figure illustrates that two or three Production Jobs are created, each containing a single-page Imposition. The Print Items are color-coded to make it easier to identify the possible sequence of Print Items across Production Jobs. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may or may not be arranged consistently across the Production Jobs.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- All Print Items are placed on a single Impose Sheet wherever possible.
- Since not all pages fit on one Impose Sheet, an additional Impose Sheet is created.
- Result: Only two Production Jobs are created, each with one Impose Sheet, because Print Items of different sizes can be freely combined and imposed together.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled (right):
- One Imposition is created within a Production Job. The pages of Print Item 1 are placed chronologically on this Impose.
- Print Item 2 is additionally placed on the same Impose Sheet, as sufficient space is still available to optimize the Substrate utilization.
- There is not enough space for page 1 of Print Item 3, so a second Imposition is created in another Production Job.
- Page 2 of Print Item 3 does not fit on the second Impose Sheet, resulting in a third Imposition in an additional Production Job.
- Result: Three Production Jobs are created, each with one Impose Sheet; the Processing Sequence of the Print Items is therefore preserved for production.
3.1.3. Create Impose / Create Impose with Auto Nesting using a Multipage Imposition
When a Multipage Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose or a Multipage Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Multipage Imposition is always created first and then passed to the Production Job using the Operation Create Production Job from Imposition. If not all Print Items can be placed on a single Impose Sheet – for example, due to space constraints – additional Impose Sheets are created automatically.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When a Multipage Imposition is created using the Grouping Option Keep all Print Items together, all Print Items are placed on a single Impose Sheet wherever possible.
- If there is insufficient space on the Impose Sheet, an additional Impose Sheet is automatically added within the same Production Job.
Figure 4: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: Results of the Grouping Option Keep all Print Items together in the Operations Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
Explanation of the Figure:
The figure on the left shows a legend with the sizes of the Impose sheets and the Print Items:
- Impose Sheet (gray): 1,000 × 1,000 mm
- Print Item 1 (purple): 6 pages, each 300 × 300 mm
- Print Item 2 (orange): 1 page, 200 × 200 mm
- Print Item 3 (turquoise): 2 pages, each 600 × 600 mm
The figure illustrates that only a single Production Job with a Multipage Imposition is created. The Print Items are color-coded to make the possible Processing Sequence within the Production Job easier to identify. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may or may not be arranged across the Impose Sheets within the Production Job according to their processing order.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- An Imposition is created on which as many Print Item pages as possible are placed.
- Since not all Print Item pages can be placed on one Impose Sheet, an additional Impose Sheet is created within the same Impose.
- Result: Only one Production Job with two Impose Sheets is created, as the differently sized Print Items can be freely combined and imposed.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- An Imposition is created on which as many Print Item pages as possible are placed in chronological order.
- There is not enough space for page 1 of Print Item 3, so a second Impose Sheet is created within the same Imposition.
- Page 2 of Print Item 3 does not fit on the second Impose Sheet, which requires a third Impose Sheet within the same Imposition.
- Result: One Production Job with three Impose Sheets is created, and the Processing Sequence of the Print Items is preserved for production.
3.2. For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item
If the option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item is selected, a separate Production Job or separate Imposition is created for each Print Item – regardless of whether it is single-page or Multipage. Depending on whether a single-page or Multipage Imposition is used, or whether a Production Job is created without an Imposition, the following results are possible:
3.2.1. Create Production Job Without an Imposition
When a Production Job is created without an Imposition using the Operation Create Production Job, only the processing of Print Items as a Bundle is available. If an Imposition is nevertheless created within the Production Job, the Preserve Processing Sequence within the Imposition is not preserved, as the placement sequence in an Imposition depends on the selected Impose Sheet Template.
If a Production Job is created using the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item, a separate Production Job is created for each Print Item. If a Print Item contains multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3), all pages of that Print Item are grouped together within a single Production Job. If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, processing is performed in chronological order.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- If the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item is selected, a separate Production Job is created for each Print Item.
- If a Print Item consists of multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3), all pages of that Print Item are combined into one Production Job.
- If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is not enabled, the order of Print Items within the Production Jobs is undefined. If the option is enabled, the Print Items are processed in chronological order within the Production Jobs.
Figure 5: Results of the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item in the Operation Create Production Job
Description of the Figure:
The figure shows that three separate Production Jobs are created for the three Print Items, including all split pages of each Print Item. The Print Items are color-coded to make the possible order of Print Items within Production Jobs easier to identify. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may be arranged differently within the Production Job.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- A separate Production Job is created for each Print Item, containing all pages of the respective Print Item.
- The creation of Production Jobs is not chronological.
- The Print Items are displayed in the Production Job without a defined sequence. A chronological order of the Print Items may occur randomly.
- Result: Three Production Jobs are created, which may be generated in different sequences.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- A separate Production Job is created for each Print Item, containing all pages of the respective Print Item.
- The order in which the Production Jobs are created is chronological:
- First, the Production Job for all pages of Print Item 1 (purple) is created.
- Next, the Production Job for Print Item 2 (orange) is created.
- Finally, the Production Job for the two pages of Print Item 3 (turquoise) is created.
- Result: Three Production Jobs are created in chronological order.
3.2.2. Create Impose / Create Impose with Auto Nesting using a Single-page Imposition
When a single-sided Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose or a single-sided Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Imposition is always created first and then passed to the Production Job(s) using the Operation Create Production Job from Imposition. If not all Print Items can be placed on one Imposition – for example, due to space constraints – additional Production Jobs are created, each with a single-page Imposition.
If a single-page Imposition or single-page Auto Nesting is created using the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item, a separate Imposition is created for each Print Item. If a Print Item contains multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3), the pages are placed on one Impose Sheet whenever possible. If there is not enough space on one Impose Sheet for all pages of a Print Item, a new Imposition is created. Other Print Items are not placed on the same Impose Sheet with this option!
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When a single-page Impose is created with the Grouping option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item, a separate Impose is created for each Print Item.
- If a Print Item contains multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3), the pages are placed on one Impose Sheet whenever possible. If there is not enough space on one Impose Sheet for all pages of a Print Item, a new Impose Sheet is created.
- Other Print Items are not placed on the same Impose Sheet with this option!
Figure 6: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: Results of the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item in the Operations Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
One Production Job for each Impose Sheet
Each Impose is created in its own Production Job. In this case, single-page Impositions are used. If there is not enough space on one Impose Sheet, the system automatically creates an additional Impose Sheet with a corresponding Production Job.
Explanation of the Figure:
The figure on the left shows a legend with the sizes of the Impose Sheets and the Print Items:
- Impose Sheet (gray): 1,000 × 1,000 mm
- Print Item 1 (purple): 6 parts, each 300 × 300 mm
- Print Item 2 (orange): 1 page, 200 × 200 mm
- Print Item 3 (turquoise): 2 pages, each 600 × 600 mm
The figure illustrates that four Production Jobs are created, each with a single-page Imposition. The Print Items are color-coded to make the possible order of Print Items across the Production Jobs easier to identify. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may or may not be arranged across the Production Jobs according to their processing order.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- A separate Imposition is created for each Print Item, regardless of the number of pages.
- The Print Items are placed in no defined order, so the Production Jobs are also created non-chronologically.
- Since the two pages of Print Item 3 do not fit on one Impose Sheet, a separate Impose Sheet is created for each page.
- Result: Four Production Jobs are created, each with one Impose Sheet. The order of the Production Jobs is random.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- All six pages of Print Item 1 are placed on the first Impose Sheet.
- A new Impose Sheet is created for Print Item 2.
- Since the two pages of Print Item 3 cannot be placed on one Impose Sheet, a separate Impose Sheet is created for each page.
- Result: Four Production Jobs are created, each with one Impose Sheet. The Production Jobs are created in chronological order.
3.2.3. Create Impose / Create Impose with Auto Nesting using a Multipage Imposition
When a Multipage Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose or a Multipage Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Multipage Impose is always created first and then passed to the Production Job by applying the Operation Create Production Job from Impose. If not all Print Items can be placed on one Impose Sheet – for example, due to space constraints – additional Impose Sheets are created.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When a Multipage Impose is created using the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item, a separate Imposition is created for each Print Item.
- If not all pages of a Print Item fit on one Impose Sheet, an additional Impose Sheet is created within the same Imposition.
- Other Print Items are not placed in the same Imposition.
Illustration 7: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: Results of the Grouping Option For Every Single-page and Multipage Print Item in the Operations Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
The figure illustrates that three Production Jobs are created, each containing either a single- or Multipage Imposition. The Print Items are color-coded to make it easier to identify the possible order of the Print Items within the Production Jobs. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may be arranged across the Production Jobs accordingly.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- A separate Imposition is created for each Print Item, regardless of the number of pages.
- The Print Items are placed in no defined order, so the Production Jobs are not created chronologically.
- Since the second page of Print Item 3 cannot fit on one Impose Sheet, a second Impose Sheet is created within the same Imposition.
- Result: Three Production Jobs are created:
- one Impose Sheet for Print Item 1
- one Impose Sheet for Print Item 2
- two Impose Sheet for Print Item 3
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- A separate Impose is created for each Print Item, regardless of the number of pages.
- The Print Items are placed in the defined order, so the Production Jobs are created chronologically.
- For Print Item 1, one Impose Sheet and one Production Job are created.
- For Print Item 2, one Impose Sheet and one Production Job are created.
- For Print Item 3, one Impose and one Production Job are created. Since only one page fits on the first Impose Sheet, a second Impose Sheet is created within the same Impose.
- Result: Three Production Jobs in chronological order:
- First, Print Item 1: one Production Job with one Impose Sheet.
- Next, Print Item 2: one Production Job with one Impose Sheet.
- Finally, Print Item 3: one Production Job with two Impose Sheets.
3.3. For Every Print Item
When the option For Every Print Item is selected, a separate Impose and Production Job is created for every single page of every Print Item. This means that if a Multipage Print Item has been split into individual pages, each page is processed separately. This option generates the largest number of Production Jobs and Impositions. Depending on whether a single-page or Multipage Imposition is used, or if only a Production Job is created, the following results can occur:
3.3.1. Create Production Job Without Imposition
If a Production Job is created without an Impose using the Operation Create Production Job, only the processing of Print Items as a Bundle is available. If an Impose is still created in the Production Job, the Preserve Processing Sequence within the Impose is not maintained, because the placement order on an Impose depends on the selected Impose Sheet Template.
When a Production Job is created using the Grouping Option For Every Print Item, a separate Production Job is created for each individual page. If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is disabled, the Production Jobs are created in random order. If the Preserve Processing Sequence order is enabled, the processing and creation of the Production Jobs are carried out chronologically.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When the Grouping Option For Every Print Item is selected, a separate Production Job is created for each Print Item.
- If a Print Item consists of multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3) and these Multipage documents have been previously split, a separate Production Job is created for each individual page.
- If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is disabled, the order of the Print Items – and therefore the creation of the Production Jobs – is undefined.
- If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the order of the Print Items – and therefore the creation of the Production Jobs – is chronological.
Figure 8: Results of the Grouping Option For Every Print Item in the Operation Create Production Job
Description of the Figure:
The figure shows that nine separate Production Jobs are created for the three Print Items, including all split pages. The Print Items are color-coded to make it easier to recognize their possible sequence in the Production Jobs. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items and Production Jobs can be arranged chronologically.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- A separate Production Job is created for every page if the Print Items have been previously split.
- The pages are processed in no defined order.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created in a random sequence.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled (right):
- A separate Production Job is created for every page if the Print Items have been previously split.
- The Print Items are processed chronologically:
- First, all pages of Print Item 1 (purple) are processed, preserving the page order.
- Next, the Production Job for Print Item 2 (orange) is created.
- Finally, the pages of Print Item 3 (turquoise) are processed in their original order.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created in chronological order.
3.3.2. Create Impose / Create Impose with Auto Nesting with Single-page Impose
When a single-sided Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose or a single-sided Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Imposition is always created first and then passed to the Production Job(s) using the Operation Create Production Job from Impose. If not all Print Items can be placed on one Impose – for example, due to space constraints – additional Production Jobs with individual single-page Impose are created.
When a single-page Impose or single-page Auto Nesting is created with the Grouping Option For Every Print Item, a separate Impose and Production Job is created for every individual page. Each Imposition contains only a single page of a Print Item. If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is disabled, the order of the Impositions and the resulting Production Jobs is undefined. If the Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Imposition and Production Jobs are created chronologically.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When a single-page Imposition is created with the Grouping Option For Every Print Item, a separate Imposition is created for each Print Item.
- If a Print Item consists of multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3) and the Multipage documents have been previously split, a separate Production Job is created for every page.
- If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is disabled, the order of the Print Items and the resulting Production Jobs is undefined. If the option is enabled, the order of the Print Items and the creation of Production Jobs is chronological.
Figure 9: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: The results of the Grouping Option For Every Print Item in the Operations Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
Explanation of the Figure:
The illustration on the left shows a legend with the sizes of the Impose Sheets and the Print Items:
- Impose Sheet (gray): 1,000 × 1,000 mm
- Print Item 1 (purple): 6 parts, each 300 × 300 mm
- Print Item 2 (orange): 1 page, 200 × 200 mm
- Print Item 3 (turquoise): 2 pages, each 600 × 600 mm
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- For each page – if the Print Items were previously split – an Imposition is created within a Production Job.
- The pages are processed in no defined order.
- If multiple copies of the individual pages are produced, Print Items that cannot fit on the first Impose Sheet are imposed on a new Impose Sheet within a new Production Job.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created, each containing a single Print Item on an Imposition Sheet. The order of the Production Jobs is undefined.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- For every page – if the Print Items were previously split – an Impose is created within a Production Job.
- The pages are processed chronologically:
- For every page of Print Item 1 (purple), a separate Imposition is created in a separate Production Job.
- Then, a new Imposition and Production Job is created for Print Item 2 (orange).
- Finally, an Imposition and a Production Job are created for page 1 and page 2 of Print Item 3 (turquoise).
- If multiple copies of the individual pages are produced, Print Items that cannot fit on the first Impose Sheet are placed on a new Impose Sheet in a new Production Job.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created, each containing a single Impose Sheet. The Production Jobs are generated in chronological order.
Single Print Items with Multiple Pages
If multiple copies of a single page are to be produced, in a single-page Imposition the Impose Sheet is filled with as many Print Items as possible. Any remaining copies are placed on an additional Impose Sheet in a separate Production Job.
3.3.3. Create Impose / Create Impose with Auto Nesting with Multipage Imposition
When a single-page Imposition is created using the Operation Create Impose or a single-page Auto Nesting is created using the Operation Create Impose with Auto Nesting, the Imposition is always created first and then passed to the Production Job(s) by applying the Operation Create Production Order from Impose. If not all Print Items can be placed on one Imposition – for example, due to space constraints – additional Production Jobs are created, each with a single-page Imposition.
If a Multipage Imposition or Multipage Auto Nesting is created using the Grouping Option For Every Print Item, a separate Imposition and Production Job is created for each page. This configuration differs from the previously described single-page Imposition in that, if many copies of a page need to be produced, no additional Production Job is created. Instead, a Multipage Imposition for that page is generated within the same Production Job.
In summary, the behavior can be described as follows:
- When the single-page Imposition is created with the Grouping Option For Every Print Item, a separate Imposition is created for every Print Item.
- If a Print Item consists of multiple pages (e.g., Print Item 1 and Print Item 3), a Production Job is created for each page when these Multipage documents have been previously split.
- If the option Preserve Processing Sequence is disabled, the order of the Print Items and thus the creation of the Production Jobs is undefined. When the option is activated, the order of the Print Items and thus the creation of Production Jobs is chronological.
Figure 10: Left: Legend for the figure on the right; Right: Results of the Grouping Option For Every Print Item in the Operations Create Impose or Create Impose with Auto Nesting
Explanation of the Figure:
The left figure shows a legend with the sizes of the Impose Sheets as well as the sizes of the Print Items:
- Impose Sheet (gray): 1,000 × 1,000 mm
- Print Item 1 (purple): 6 pages, each 300 × 300 mm
- Print Item 2 (orange): 1 page, 200 × 200 mm
- Print Item 3 (turquoise): 2 pages, each 600 × 600 mm
The figure illustrates that nine Production Jobs are created, each containing a single-page or Multipage Imposition. The Print Items are color-coded to help quickly to identify the possible sequence of Print Items across Production Jobs. Depending on whether the option Preserve Processing Sequence is enabled, the Print Items may be arranged differently across the Production Jobs.
Preserve Processing Sequence disabled:
- For every page – when the Print Items have been previously split – an Imposition is created within a Production Job.
- The pages are processed in no defined order.
- If multiple copies of individual pages are produced, those Print Items that cannot fit on the first Impose Sheet are placed on a new Impose Sheet in the same Production Job.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created, each with one Print Item on the Impose Sheet. The order of Production Jobs may vary.
Preserve Processing Sequence enabled:
- For every page – when the Print Items have been previously split – an Imposition is created within a Production Job.
- The pages are processed chronologically:
- First, a separate Imposition is created for every page of Print Item 1 (purple) in a separate Production Job.
- Next, a new Imposition and a Production Job with Print Item 2 (orange) are created.
- Finally, an Imposition and a Production Job is created for page 1 and page 2 of Print Item 3 (turquoise).
- If multiple copies of individual pages are produced, those Print Items that cannot fit on the first Impose Sheet are imposed on a new Impose Sheet in the same Production Job.
- Result: Nine Production Jobs are created, each containing one Impose Sheet. The Production Jobs are generated in chronological order.
