For correctly positioning print items in the imposition, it is important that the PDF Page Geometry Boxes are set for each print item, especially the TrimBox and BleedBox. For example, the print data must be adjusted to specific dimensions, the TrimBox might need to be derived from the dieline , or the page geometry Boxes need to be adjusted manually.

In this article we'll learn:

  • How to set Page Geometry Boxes for the print item
  • How to adjust the size of the print item to the TrimBox
  • How to clip a print item based on the dieline

1. General

The Fixups listed below are located in the Edit Page Geometry drop-down menu [1], which you can find in the footer of the Document Information and User-defined Fields area under the Print Data tab [2]. These Fixups are also located under the Data Preparation tab [3].

Using the Fixups in this group, the page geometry boxes for the print files can be set to the correct position, the TrimBox can be set to an existing dieline, the BleedBox can be set based on the TrimBox, the bleed can be set based on an existing dieline, and the content of a print item can be scaled absolutely or using a percentage. Additional FIxups which address these themes can be found by selecting the search terms TrimBox, BleedBox, CropBox, MediaBox, and by activating the Scale radio button in the action panel under the Data Preparation tab.

2. Fixups contained in the Edit Page Geometry group

A description of the individual Fixups are written below.

2.1. Set TrimBox to the Dieline

The aim of this Fixup is to set the TrimBox to an existing dieline in the print file and the BleedBox at a certain distance from the TrimBox.

2.2. Resize TrimBox

The goal of this Fixup is to adjust the current dimension of the TrimBox in the print item to work with exact sizes in production. All other existing Page Geometry Boxes are not affected by this Fixup, unless the size of the TrimBox moves beyond that of the Media- or BleedBox. In this case, the Media and BleedBoxes are adjusted accordingly.

2.3. Resize TrimBox and set Bleed

The purpose of this Fixup is to resize the TrimBox for production and set the BleedBox based on the distance from the TrimBox.

2.4. Clip Print Item with Additional Bleed

The aim of this Fixup is to clip the print item using the entered distance along an existing dieline on the outside, as well as the inside, and to set the TrimBox to the selected dieline in the process.

2.5. Set Page Geometry Boxes

The aim of this Fixup is to set/adjust the Page Geometry Boxes: MediaBox, TrimBox and BleedBox, for a print item.

2.6. Scale Page Content

The goal of this Fixup is to scale the page content to a certain size based on the TrimBox. Content can be adjusted using the scaling options drop-down.
