5.2 Uploading and Applying Custom Fixups

Updated on

This article will show you

  • how to upload custom Fixups and
  • where you can find and apply them.

1. Introduction

In order to use custom Fixups in Workflow, they will first need to be uploaded. Before working with custom Fixups in Workflow, they need to be prepared. Two essential components are required to use a custom Fixup in Workflow:

  1. KFPX file – this file type comes from callas pdfToolbox. Fixups are created as desired in the desktop application, and the profile is then exported as a .kfpx file.
  2. XML file – the XML file is the textual and structural description of the KFPX file. Among other things, it contains the description of all existing variables and determines the appearance of the dialog.

Creating Custom Fixups

For information on how to create a Fixup and the necessary requirements, please refer to the following two articles: Creating Fixups without Variables and Creating Parametrizable Fixups.

2. Uploading Fixups in Workflow

Once both the KFPX file and the associated XML file are complete, both files must be uploaded to the Workflow. After they have been uploaded, they can be applied immediately to Print Items or Article Items.

To upload a custom Fixup to the Workflow, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Settings and select the Preflight / Fixups [1] menu.
  2. Switch to the Custom Fixups [2] tab.
  3. Click the Upload [3] button. This opens the Upload PDF Toolbox Profile and XML Translation dialog box.

3. Accessing Fixups

Once a custom Fixup has been uploaded it is accessible. Custom Fixups can be found in two places in the Workflow:

Data Preparation – the Data Preparation tab is located in the detail view of an Article/Print Item or Production Job. There you will find an overview of all Fixups – including Custom Fixups [7] – that are offered in the Workflow.

Fixup Chains – Custom Fixups can also be used in Fixup Chains, allowing them to be applied in many areas of the Workflow.
