Installation of updates for versions higher than 1.17.0
Workflow versions 1.17.1, 1.18.0, and all future versions can only be installed if Workflow version 1.17.0 (956) or higher has been previously installed. This means that a direct update from earlier versions, such as 1.16.x, 1.15.x, or 1.14.x, cannot be performed without first installing version 1.17.0 (956)! This requirement is due to internal improvements in the migration logic introduced in version 1.17.0.(956) or higher. Before proceeding with this or any other future updates, please ensure that version 1.17.0.(956) is installed.
Additionally, an update from a Workflow version lower than 1.14.0 to version 1.18.0 or higher must first be carried out for version 1.14.0 and only then for 1.17.0.(956)!
Database migration from version 1.19.0
In addition to installing an update, a database migration has to be carried out from version 1.19.0. There are three options for users to install the update, whereby it is possible to either carry out the update:
- directly after the installation setup of 1.19.0. Duration: between 5 minutes and 5 hours, the final duration depends on the database size.
- at any time after version 1.19.0 has been installed (option 1 has not been used). To do this, the command ppdtc.exe --automigrate-pg16 must be executed in the Windows command prompt (cmd). After that, users can decide when the migration should be carried out.
- automatically when updating to 1.19.1 (or higher). This option may increase the duration of the database migration.
No upgrade possible for versions older than 1.10.0
Please note that with the release of version 1.18.0, upgrading from versions older than 1.10.0 is no longer possible!

1.1. New Features
The following new features are available in version 1.19.1 of the Workflow:
Impose Editor – In the Impose Editor, existing functions have been extended or improved with version 1.19.1.
- Step & Repeat – Pre-Angulation – the option to create pre-angulation for an Imposition with Shape Nesting – provided in version 1.19.0 of the Workflow – was extended in this version to the Impose Mode Step & Repeat. [PPDWF-8643]
-
Captions and Markers – as of this version, additional placement options are available in Step & Repeat for setting Captions and Marks. In addition, it is possible to define the horizontal origin for Marks and Captions in all other Impose modes. [PPDWF-8733]. The newly implemented placement options include the following:
- Captions "Per Row" – allows you to add captions in Step & Repeat for each row of Print Items.
- Marks and Captions for "Last Row" – use this function to add a Step & Repeat caption for the last line of text in a multipage Imposition.
- "Horizontal Origin" for Marks and Captions – provides the option to set the horizontal origin based on the Print Items, the Artboard, and the Sheet for selected options in Horiz. Origin.
- Nesting – Keep Print Items together – for the strategy "Keep Print Items on page together" – introduced in version 1.19.0 – the expected result for a multipage Nesting in the Impose Editor is now also displayed correctly in version 1.19.1. This means that the strategy can also be used outside of Automation Jobs. [PPDWF-9031]
-
Shape Nesting – for Shape Nesting, several new features and improvements were implemented in version 1.19.1. These include the following:
- Calculation of Utilization and Result Display – from this version onwards, the degree of utilization is calculated based on the effective area that is used for irregular Print Items. Furthermore, the results are displayed more conclusively. [PPDWF-9015]
- Number of Rotations – starting with this version, it's possible to set several Number of Rotations for Print Items when optimizing the Nesting. The following are offered: 4 Rotations – 90°, 8 Rotations – 45°, 16 Rotations – 22.5°, and User Defined – as many rotations as you wish. This function is available for the Rotations Non-Uniform Rotation and Uniform Rotation. Up to this version, only 4 rotations were possible. [PPDWF-8544]
- Prepare Print Item for Shape Nesting in Imposition – as of this version, users are enabled to select the desired Spot Color for a Print Item that has not yet been prepared for Shape Nesting and that should be used for the Imposition in a Shape Nesting. [PPDWF-8871]
- Automatic Height Adjustment – the same logic for automatically adjusting the height – as already implemented in version 1.12.0 for standard Nesting – is now provided for Shape Nesting. This means that it is possible to impose Print Items that are imposed on a roll substrate and are too large for the currently set height of the Imposition. This is done by increasing the Imposition's length. [PPDWF-436]
- Grouping and Sorting – the same logic for grouping and sorting – as already implemented in version 1.15.0 for standard Nesting – is provided for Shape Nesting. [PPDWF-5931]
- Rotation "Use from Print Item" – with version 1.19.1, the option Use from Print Item is available for rotating Print Items in the Impose Editor. [PPDWF-8384] [PPDWF-8542]
- New Placeholders for Captions – the placeholders for Captions of a Production Job have been enhanced in the Impose Editor. The existing Render Start Time option for a Production Job has been enhanced with Render – Date and Render – Time of day. [PPDWF-9008]
- Placement of Register Marks in Shape Nesting – the mode Best Fit was improved, from this version on it's possible to place marks along the Shape of a Print Item in a Shape Nesting. [PPDWF-2605]
Automation – for Automation, functions have been extended or improved with version 1.19.1. Click on the link to access the detailed description.
- Automation Variables – from this version onwards, Automation Variables are available. These allow users to apply a value stored in a user-defined field dynamically while an Operation is being processed. [PPDWF-8754]
-
Operations – improvements and new features have been implemented for various Operations of a Production Configuration.
- Renaming of Operations – in this version, all Operations have been standardized in terms of their naming so that the activity that each Operation represents is specified.
- "Create Imposition" Operation – for this Operation, a maximum queue time is provided until the Imposition is executed. [PPDWF-9305]
- "Update Print Item details" Operation – for this Operation, existing fields are no longer prefilled from this version on, as this resulted in e.g. user-defined fields being overwritten. [PPDWF-9267]
- Deleting Automation Jobs – as of this version, the method "Delete Automation Job and remove references" is available to users when deleting Automation Jobs. This method deletes the Automation Job but not the associated Print Item. The function "Force Delete – will not move to trash, will remove permanently" is activated to prompt an immediate result in the list of Automation Jobs. [PPDWF-9190] [PPDWF-7196]
- Force Print – from this version on, when creating a Quick Print with a Production Configuration, the Operations "Check-in Artwork and Normalize" and "Create Production Job and Impose" are offered to users by default. [PPDWF-8900]
New User Interface – the following functions of the new user interface have been enhanced or improved in version 1.19.1. Click on the link to access the detailed description.

Print Item detail view – in this version, some improvements have been made to the user interface in the detail view of Print Items.
- "Split" button – starting with this version, a Split button for splitting multipage documents is offered in the detail view of the Print Items for a Production Job. [PPDWF-8952]
- Spot Colors – in version 1.19.1, the user interface for some menus relating to Spot Colors has been improved. This includes a rearrangement of the action bar in the Color > Spot Colors menu and a revised user interface for editing the Spot Color definition in the detail view of Print Items. [PPDWF-8963] [PPDWF-7979]
- Locked Articles – a message is displayed in the detail view of a locked Article stating that the Article is locked. For this reason, the Article cannot be edited in any of the tabs. [PPDWF-7918]
- Reset System Settings – this version of the settings menu allows you to reset certain sub-areas to the default system settings or to reset all system settings at once. This can be done by activating the Debug mode. [PPDWF-9028]
- Production Job with Imposition – Reprint Production Job – from version 1.19.0, it is possible to reprint a Production Job with an Imposition in V2 of the Workflow. [PPDWF-7401]
Data Preparation – for Data Preparation, functions have been enhanced or improved with version 1.19.1. Click on the link to access the detail description. Improvements have been made to two existing Fixups: "Create Bleed by Mirroring" and "Create Bleed by Upscaling". In addition, the new variable placeholder Current Username has been added, which uses the current user name of the person who is logged in when the Fixup is executed.
1.2. Improvements
The following improvements to existing functions were implemented in version 1.19.0 of the Workflow:
- Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates – with version 1.19.1, the Fixup "Derive TrimBox from CropMarks" has been improved so that the TrimBox is now set to the Crop Marks and the BleedBox is set to the Bleed Marks. [PPDWF-4103]
- Grid Chart – Chromatic – this version provides a third axis – Color Angle (Hue) – for the Chromatic Grid Charts. This allows the user to combine changing hues in connection with the axes Achromatic – Colorful and Light – Dark. [PPDWF-8576] [PPDWF-9005]
- Variable Data – Amazon Transparency Codes – for the Amazon Transparency Codes, a second method for querying the codes has been implemented. With this method, it is possible to use the access data of stored customers for authentication on the Amazon Transparency Server. [PPDWF-9058]
- ISO Standard 19593-1 – Processing Steps – from version 1.19.1, the Workflow provides the option of labeling Spot Colors in accordance with the ISO standard. The reason for the implementation is that groups of Spot Colors or individual types can be addressed more easily when exporting separations or when ripping. The Group and Type of a Technical Color are visible in the Spot Colors menu and the detail view of an Article or Print Item. Mind though that those values currently do not cause any changes to the print data during check-in. [PPDWF-8409]
- Cutter Device "Sei Labelmaster | SEI" – additional layout – for processing cut jobs, an additional layout for the Cutter Device has been added. As for the second layout, starting with version 1.19.1, only the QR code with the corresponding rectangle marks needs to be placed on the job. The next QR code featuring Crop Marks is only required for a new repeat. The Cutter Device parameters have been extended for this layout, so it should be created as a new device to avoid errors caused by old parameter settings. [PPDWF-8469]
-
Quick Print – some improvements have been made to the Quick Print feature in this version of the Workflow. These include the following [PPDWF-9083]
- Placeholder for creating the Print Item name – from version 1.19.1, the $ sign can be used in addition to the ### symbol (three-digit consecutive numbering). The $ sign serves as a placeholder for the current file name.
- Change the order of Print Items – the order of the uploaded Print Items can be changed to subsequently maintain the correct order when creating Production Jobs.
- Process Print Items as Bundle – as of version 1.19.1, the option Process Print Items as Bundle is handled in various ways depending on the selected Production Configuration. The option can either be available and activated or deactivated, or it can be available and not deactivated, or it isn't available.
- Display Production Configuration – as of version 1.19.1, only Production Configurations that include the "Check-in Artwork and Normalize" Operation are displayed and available for selection.
- Minor Improvements – in addition, various other minor improvements have been implemented. These include improvements in uploading CF2 files to the Die Cut Library [PPDWF-8467], in the display of placeholders [PPDWF-9153], in the display of pages for Articles [PPDWF-9252], and in the register of all Inks [PPDWF-9204].
