Installing updates for versions higher than 1.19.0

Workflow versions 1.19.1, 1.19.2, 1.20.0, and all future versions can only be installed if Workflow version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher has been installed on the system beforehand. A direct update from an earlier version  e.g. 1.18.x, 1.17.x, and 1.16.x  is not possible without first updating to version 1.19.0 (1080)! This is due to internal improvements in the migration logic that were introduced with version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher.

Important: Before installing an update, make sure that version 1.19.0. (1080) or higher is already installed on your system.

An update from a Workflow version lower than 1.17.0 to version 1.19.0 or higher must first be performed to version 1.17.0 and then to version 1.19.0(1080)!

Database migration from version 1.19.0

From version 1.19.0 onwards, a database migration process is required in addition to installing an update. Users have three options for performing the migration:

  1. Directly during the installation of 1.19.0 (recommended): The migration can be started automatically after the installation setup of version 1.19.0. Duration: between 5 minutes and 5 hours, depending on the database size.
  2. Manually at a later time: If the migration is not performed during setup, it can be started manually at a later time (if option 1 was not used). To do this, execute the following command in the Windows command prompt (CMD):  ppdtc.exe --automigrate-pg16. This allows you to perform the migration flexibly at a later time of your choice.
  3. Automatically, when updating to version 1.19.1 (or higher): If the migration is not performed during the installation of 1.19.0 or manually afterwards, it will be performed automatically when updating to version 1.20.0 or higher at the latest.

Please note: In this case, the installation may take significantly longer due to the delayed migration.

No more upgrades possible for versions older than 1.12.0

Please note that with the release of version 1.20.0, it will no longer be possible to upgrade Workflow versions older than 1.12.0  release date: March 31, 2022!

  • Nesting – Optimal length for multipage Nesting – as in previous versions, Print Items that are larger than the optimal length of an Impose Sheet are placed by allowing them to exceed the optimal length of the sheet.  Starting with version 1.20.0, also the following pages of a multipage Nesting are imposed based on their optimal length. [PPDWF-9955]
  • Nesting – General improvements – the following improvements have been implemented for Nesting in this version:
    • User guidance during optimization – during optimization, a progress bar is displayed for iteration steps. Furthermore, users are enabled to stop the optimization of a Nesting at any time. [PPDWF-9832] [PPDWF-9746]
    • Shape Nesting – Performance – significant improvements have been made to the performance in Shape Nesting when calculating and opening optimized Nestings. [PPDWF-9744]
  • Perforation line for flaps – starting with this version, the perforation line for flaps includes a standard spacing of 3 pt between the individual perforated lines. The length of the individual perforated lines varies depending on the width of the flap. [PPDWF-9995]
  • Shape Nesting – Placement Method for Cutter Devices – starting with this version, users can refer to the placement method "Fit to Object" when setting register marks along the Dieline or when placing Print Items with Pre-angulation. [PPDWF-9865]
  • Impose Mode "Die Cut" – New features – three new features have been implemented in the Die Cut Impose Mode in this version.

[PPDWF-9912] [PPDWF-9356]
    • Option "Also place non-matching Print Items" – in the Artboard tab, the option "Also place non-matching Print Items" has been added to the existing strategies. By deactivating this button, ensure that only Print Items that have been assigned to the One-Up of the Die Cut are placed automatically when filling a Die Cut. [PPDWF-9356]

When using this function, either a single-page or multipage Imposition is created. The Print Item with the lowest quantity is placed in its entirety, while all other Print Items are minimally underproduced. On the last page of the Imposition, the maximum column length is determined by the Print Item with the lowest quantity. [PPDWF-9937]
    • Pre-Angulation – Optimization of Calculation – when using Pre-Angulation in a Step & Repeat, the spacing between the Impose Sheets is now calculated correctly, and the option Remove Sheet Duplicates is also evaluated correctly. [PPDWF-9743] [PPDWF-9485] [PPDWF-9475]
  • Barcode and text Captions with Background – starting with this version, the Overprint option is no longer available for Barcode Captions. The display of overprinting Text Captions has been aligned with the display in the Impose Editor. [PPDWF-9864] [PPDWF-9863]
