Installing Updates for Versions higher than 1.19.0

Workflow version 1.20.2 and all future versions can only be installed if Workflow version 1.20.1 (1190) or higher has already been installed on the system. A direct update from an earlier version – e.g., 1.20.x, 1.19.x, 1.18.x, 1.17.x, and 1.16.x – is not possible without first updating to version 1.20.1 (1190)! This restriction is due to internal improvements in the migration logic introduced with version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher.

Important: Before installing an update, ensure that version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher is already installed on your system.

An update from a Workflow version lower than 1.17.0 to version 1.20.1 or higher must first be performed to version 1.17.0, then to 1.19.0 (1080), and finally to version 1.20.1 (1190)!

No Upgrades possible for Versions older than 1.13.0

Please note that with the release of version 1.20.2 (release date: August 31, 2025), it is no longer possible to upgrade Workflow versions older than 1.13.0 (release date: August 31, 2022)!

1.1. New Features in Workflow

The following new features are available in version 1.20.2 of the Workflow:

Impose Editor – Existing features have been expanded and improved in version 1.20.2.

  • Impose Mode "Tiling" – Overlap warning – From this version, the Impose Editor provides a warning when areas of the Tiling exceed the Substrate Width or Height. [PPDWF-10312]
  • Impose Mode "Die Cut" Two new features have been implemented for the Impose Mode "Die Cut" in this version:
    • Double-Sided Output – In the Settings area, you now have the option to create a Double-Sided Output for the Impose Mode "Die Cut" and to generate Markers for both sides. [PPDWF-9798] [PPDWF-9914]
    • Use Repeat Size from N-Up – Starting with this version, the Operation "Create Impose" in a Production Configuration provides the option Use Repeat Size from N-Up for the Impose Mode Die Cut. [PPDWF-10264]
  • Impose Mode "Nesting" – Two new features have been implemented for the Impose Mode "Nesting" in this version:
    • Optimize Shape Nesting for Width – The placement algorithm for Shape Nesting has been improved  to optimize the substrate usage not only for Height but also for Width. [PPDWF-10434]
    • Shape Nesting – Performance – Starting with this version, the calculation times for determining possible Bleed between Print Items have been significantly reduced. Processes such as opening, saving, and optimizing an existing Shape Nesting are now faster. [PPDWF-10729]
  • Impose Mode "Step & Repeat" – The following two new features have been implemented for the Impose Mode "Step & Repeat":
    • Calculation Logic – Overlaps – Starting with this version, the Bleed of a Print Item is no longer included in the calculation to generate warnings when a Print Item overlaps the Impose Area. [PPDWF-10484]
    • Minimum Underproduction – The calculation logic has been changed. The Print Item with the smallest quantity determines the maximum column length across one or more Impositions. All other Print Items are produced up to this length, resulting in controlled underproduction. [PPDWF-10464]
  • Vision Hybrid Marks – Vision Marks – From this version, it is possible to create Separations for Hybrid Machines with all required Hybrid Marks. The following new features for Hybrid Machines are also introduced in this version:
    • Creating Hybrid Spot Color Definitions – From this version, it is possible to create a system-wide Hybrid Spot Color Definition. [PPDWF-10660] [PPDWF-10417] [PPDWF-10418]
    • Creating Vision Hybrid Marks – In version 1.20.2 provides the option to generate Vision Marks, consisting of Inspection Marks (circles) for all used CMYK-OVG and Hybrid Colors. Rectangular Marks (black areas) can be created in the defined sizes, and optionally to provide the marks with a white background. Additionally, for Vision Marks, Registration Marks can be set according to the defined position, Bearer Bars can be applied, Separation Names can be added to the respective Separations, and additional Captions for the Separations can be generated. [PPDWF-8028] [PPDWF-10112]. [PPDWF-10656]
    • PDF Export of Hybrid Color Separation This version provides the function to export the Separation for the selected Hybrid Color as a PDF, including all Marks, Captions, and the required Y-Distortion. [PPDWF-10422] [PPDWF-10531] [PPDWF-9652]

2. Fixed Bugs

The following bugs have been fixed in this release:

2.1. Main Application

Production Jobs – Change Output Settings – In the new user interface, users could set the Lead In and Lead Out settings globally for multiple Production Jobs. However, the set values were not applied to the Production Jobs. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-1920]

Custom Fields – Input Validation – For custom fields that are only allowed to contain integers, decimal numbers could also be entered. This bug has been fixed. [PPDWF-10697]

Technical Colors – Filled Punches – Punches were displayed incorrectly; instead of Strokes, they appeared filled in the Print Item Preview or were placed as overlaps. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-10678]

Production Job – Placeholders Placeholders that were used in Automation Jobs were not correctly transferred to the created Production Jobs. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-10633]

Cutter Devices – Placement of Registration Marks "Fabric Fit" – When using the placement method Fabric Fit for Registration Marks, the Marks were positioned incorrectly. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-11292]

Device Connector Software – External Printers – If the setting "Fast Generation of Previews" was enabled in the system settings, the Device Connector Software (Ergosoft) displayed only a black preview. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-11390]

Automation Variable – Internal Name When an Automation Variable based on the Internal Name was used for a Nesting Impose Template, in some cases no Nesting was generated. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-11168]

Production Configuration – Create Impose "Die Cut" Mode – When creating a Production Configuration with the Operation Create Impose in the Mode Die Cut and the option "Use Multiple Impose Size" was enabled, an error was displayed stating that the N-Up could not be found. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10995]

Production Configuration – Create Impose with Print Item Template – When creating a Production Configuration with the Operation Create Impose using a Print Item Template, the result differed from manually applying the Template in the Impose Editor. This behavior has been fixed, and the Impose Template is now applied correctly consistently. [PPDWF-10525]

Automation Jobs – Bundle Execution – When using Print Items as a Bundle in an Automation Job, the Print Items were sometimes processed together with other Print Items that were being produced continuously. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-10801]

Automation Jobs – Quick Filter – In the tab Bundle of Automation Jobs, not all filters were available because the navigation bar in the user interface was displayed too narrow. This behavior has been resolved by implementing a scroll bar. [PPDWF-11139]

Production Scheduler – Deletion – A Production Scheduler could not be deleted after being activated and then deactivated. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-10942]

Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates – The following errors have been fixed for the Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates in this version:

  • "Move objects that are not assigned to a layer to a layer" – When using the Fixup "Move objects that are not assigned to a layer to a layer", it sometimes did not execute correctly.
  • Reset Templates – Templates were reset after reloading the browser. [PPDWF-10159]

Quick Print – Determining the Print Item Order – In Quick Print, it was sometimes not possible to change or move the order of Print Items. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-11107]

Grid Charts – The following bugs have been fixed for Grid Charts in version 1.20.2:

  • Creation Process – When creating a Grid Chart, it was possible to proceed to the next step even if not all the required information was provided in the previous step. [PPDWF-11017]
  • OAS Colors – Selected OAS colors (white) were not saved for the Grid Chart. From version 1.20.2 onwards, they are now saved and applied again. [PPDWF-11016]
  • Creation with multiple Print Items in a Production Job – If a Production Job contained multiple Print Items, only one Spot Color of the first Print Item in the Production Job could be used to create a Grid Chart. [PPDWF-11210]
  • Preview Display for Multipage Documents – When creating a Grid Chart using a Spot Color from a page other than first page of a multipage document, the Preview of the first page was always displayed in the Grid Chart. [PPDWF-10296]

Print Item Editor – The following bugs have been fixed in version 1.20.2 for the Print Item Editor.

  • Number of Path Points – The number of path points was not displayed in the new user interface for Print Items uploaded via the old user interface. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10959]
  • Technical Lines – Due to the reimplementation where technical lines are only overlaid in the Preview of the Print Item detail view, inconsistencies occurred in the display. The display has been standardized. [PPDWF-10899]

Q-Points – The following bugs related to Q-Points have been fixed in version 1.20.2.

  • Production Job – Exporting Q-Points – When the command "No longer export Q-Points (resolve reference)" was selected for Q-Points in a Production Job, the Q-Points were still exported. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10928]
  • Sorting – In the dialog "Select Q-Point", changing the sorting order of the Q-Points list was not retained when selecting a Q-Point again. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10812]

Die Cut Library – Custom Fields – Custom fields that were displayed in the display options for the list of One-Ups were not displayed in the list. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-10902]

Production Job – Output Template – When an Output Template was edited and saved in the tab Output Configuration, it was not longer applied after switching to another tab. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10811]

System Settings – PageBox Options – When resetting the PageBox Options to their default values, the Bleed values were not reverted to the default value of 3 mm. This behavior has been fixed. [PPDWF-10762]

Dialog "Send to Printer" – Page Range – In the dialog, a page range from 3 to 2 could be entered without an error message. This behavior has been fixed by adding validation. [PPDWF-10658]

Cutter Devices – "Plast Grommet" – An error message was displayed stating that the number of cutting knives did not match the set number. This behavior has been fixed; the message is now only required for Fotoba Cutter Devices. [PPDWF-10516]

Fixups – Entering Numbers – For Fixups that only allow integers, decimal numbers could previously be entered. This behavior has been fixed, and only whole numbers can be entered from this version onwards. [PPDWF-10463]

2.2. Impose Editor

Impose Mode "Nesting" – The following errors have been fixed in version 1.20.2 for this Impose Mode:

  • Shape Nesting with Pre-Angulation – Optimizing a Shape Nesting for the strategy "Fill Impose Sheet" with a selected Pre-Angulation produced incorrect results. [PPDWF-10870]
  • Double-Sided Nesting > Marks on the Backside – If only one color was selected for the backside, the Marks and PageBoxes were no longer displayed on the backside. [PPDWF-10836]
  • Strategy "Keep Print Items on page together" – When the option "One copy per Imposition" was disabled, executing an Automation Job could create multiple Impositions with copy = 1, even though Nesting multiple copies on a single page would have been possible. [PPDWF-10804]
  • Shape Nesting – Rotation – When Print Items with different rotations were used in a Shape Nesting, individual Print Items could overlap. From this version onwards, different rotations can be used without any issues. [PPDWF-10760]
  • Offcut Optimization – When the option "Guillotine Cut optimized" was previously selected and then the option "Offcut optimized" was selected, the option "Guillotine Cut optimized" was disabled, but the calculation continued. Starting with this version, the option "Guillotine Cut optimized" is properly deactivated when the option "Offcut optimized" is enabled. [PPDWF-10587]
  • Guillotine Cut optimized – In some cases, enabling the option "Guillotine Cut optimized" allowed only one Print Item to be placed on the sheet, even though two could have been placed. [PPDWF-10527]
  • Layout "By Column" and "By Row" – The option to place Print Items by column or by row in a Nesting was only available if all Print Items had the same size. If a Print Item with a different size was added afterwards, the option remained visible but was dimmed. [PPDWF-10522]

File Manager – When changing the number of Print Items displayed per page, the number of pages in the page navigation was not updated. This error has been fixed by updating the Print Item list. [PPDWF-10499]

Calculation of Utilization – Incorrect utilization calculations in the Impose Editor have been fixed in version 1.20.2 in the following cases:

  • When entering a sheet margin. [PPDWF-10492]
  • When using the Impose Mode "Die Cut". [PPDWF-10456]
  • When using Pre-Angulation. [PPDWF-9973]

2.3. VDP Editor

Polygon – Images – Adjusting a variable image within a polygon element was not applied correctly. This bug has been fixed. [PPDWF-10546]
