Learn in this article,
- which requirements must be met for this Fixup and
- how to apply the Fixup.
1. Introduction
The Scale Page Content Fixup is available in the Workflow. The aim of this Fixup is to scale the page content of the ImageBox to a specific size or by a selected percentage. Depending on the selected scaling option, the image is adjusted proportionally and either Bleed or additional white space is added.
2. General
Use this Fixup to set a Print Item to the desired width or height.
The Fixup can be found in the footer of the Document Information and Custom Fields area in the Print Data tab of an Article, Order, or Production Job or the Data Preparation tab.
3. Fixup Description
The Fixup can be used to scale the page content in percentage or absolute terms. The user has various Scale Methods at his disposal and can also determine which pages of a multi-page print file should be affected by the scaling.
After selection the Fixup displays the current width and height of the ImageBox. When the Fixup is executed, the CropBox is set to the size of the MediaBox.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
For this Fixup to do what it promises, the following requirements must be met:
- A TrimBox exists in the Print Item. The MediaBox exists in every PDF file anyway.
- The BleedBox can be present.

The following options are available when scaling Print Items:
-
Scale Method [1] – select which Scale Method is to be used. The following options are available in the selection menu:
- Fit from inside (Scale page edges proportionally) – scales the image area of the ImageBox to the specified size. As the proportions are retained, only the resolution of the images is adjusted according to the enlargement or reduction. The short edge of the target size is used for the calculation. Please note that if you enter a value for the short edge and the long edge, the other value is adjusted accordingly.
-
Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected Scale Method should be retrieved. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Scale Method Fit from inside (maintain aspect ratio) is executed:
FitFromInside

- Fit from inside (Add white space) – with this sizing option, the user can enter the value for the short edge and the value for the long edge independently of each other, which means that the aspect ratio usually no longer remains proportional to the original size. This means that the image area of the ImageBox is fitted to the specified short edge or long edge and filled with white space accordingly.
-
Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected Scale Method should be retrieved. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Scale Method Fit from inside (Add white space) is executed:
FitFromInsideProp

- Fit from outside (Cut page) – with this option, the user can enter the value for the short edge and the value for the long edge independently of each other, which means that the aspect ratio usually no longer remains proportional to the original size. This means that the image area of the ImageBox is adjusted to the specified short edge or long edge and the image is Bleeded.
-
Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected Scale Method should be retrieved. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Scale Method Fit from outside (Cut page) is executed:
FitFromOutside

- Fit from outside (Scale page edges proportionally) – scales the image area to fit the specified size from the outside. As the proportions are retained, only the resolution of the images is adjusted according to the enlargement or reduction. The long edge of the target file is used for the calculation. Please note that if you enter a value for the short edge and the long edge, the other value is adjusted accordingly.
-
Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected Scale Method is to be taken. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Scale Method Fit from outside (Scale page edges proportionally) is executed:
FitFromOutsideProp
Figure 5: Left: Initial image; Right: Initial image proportionally fit with the Scale Method Fit from outside (Scale page edges proportionally)
- Stretch to fill - with this scaling option, the user can enter the value for the short edge and the value for the long edge independently of each other. The image box is completely filled with the image, even if the image area has to be distorted disproportionately as a result.
-
Variable Content [5] - select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected Scale Method should be retrieved. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Stretch to fill Scale Method is executed:
StretchToFit

- Scaling by percentage [2] – shows the current scaling of the width of the TrimBox frame. By entering a different value, the width of the TrimBox is recreated based on the selected scale method.
- Scaling absolute [3] – shows the current height of the TrimBox. By entering a different value, the height of the TrimBox is recreated based on the selected scale method.
- Short Edge [4] – the value for the short page of the target file is entered here. For the Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the short page should be retrieved.
- Long Edge [7] – the value for the long side of the target file is entered here. For the Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the long side should be retrieved.
-
Pages [5] –for multi-page files, it is possible to select the pages that should be scaled. The following entries, for example, can have an effect on the page selection:
- All – all pages are scaled.
- 8 – scale page 8.
- 1-6 – page 1 to 6 is scaled.
- -3-1 – the last 3 pages are scaled.
- even – all even pages are scaled.
- odd – all odd pages are formated.
- 1-5,8,13-16 – page 1 to 5, page 8 as well as page 13 to 16 are scaled.
3.2. Before / After
The source file "Set_PageBox_Start" contains a MediaBox measuring 450 x 300 mm and a TrimBox measuring 430 x 280 mm. The BleedBox is in exactly the same position as the MediaBox. The subject is to be produced in a size of 330 x 250 mm (visible format). The corrected version "Set_PageBox_End" is created by executing the Fixups.
