3.2 Add a Dieline for defined Text

1. Introduction

The Fixup Add a Dieline for defined Text is available in the Workflow. The aim of this Fixup is to add a Dieline around a specific text - e.g. a label.

2. General

The Fixup Add a Dieline for defined Text can be used to create a Dieline around a selected text. Use this Fixup for to cut out the lettering separately on the Cutter Device and then stick it to the back of the Print Item.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Color in the Category area,
  • activating the option Create and Fill in the Action area,
  • activating the option Spot Color and Dieline in the Search area.

3. Description

Use this Fixup to create a Dieline around a defined text. The Dieline corresponds to the size of the text frame. Disable the process when a Dieline already exists.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • There are text elements in the file.

The following options can be selected to create a Dieline for the text:

  • Template [1] –  settings that are selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and thus applied to other Articles/Print Items.

Basic Settings

  • Skip generation of the Dieline if a Dieline already exists [2] – by activating this option, the creation of the Dieline is prevented if a Dieline already exists for the selected Spot Color.
  • Text [3] – enter the text around which you want to create a Dieline. For the Variable Content [10], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the text should be retrieved.
  • Font Size [4] – enter the font size of the text that should be searched. For the Variable Content [5], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the font size should be retrieved.
  • Font [11] – select the font you have chosen for the text from the drop-down menu.
  • Spot Color [6] – in the selection menu, select a Spot Color for the Dieline that should be created.
  • Line Width [7] – enter the desired line width for the Dielines that should be created. For the Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the line width should be retrieved.
  • Offset [12] – enter the offset of the Dieline that should be created here. For the Variable Content [13], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the offset should be retrieved.
  • Overprint State [9]determine the overprint status of the Dieline that should be created. Choose between Overprint and Knockout.

Advanced

  • Layer Name [14] – enter the name of the Layer on which the new Dieline should be created. If you do not want to create a separate Layer, remove the name from the input field. For the Variable Content [16], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the layer name should be retrieved.
  • Conformity of Processing Steps according to ISO 19593-1 [15] –all subsequently inserted Dielines should be created by default according to ISO 19593-1 on the Structural layer in the Structural group of the Cutting type. Further information on the ISO standard can be found in the description Processing Steps ISO 15931-1.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Add Dieline for Text.pdf". Here, a Dieline was created for the text Fixup "Add a Dieline for defined Text".

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Add Dieline for Text_End.pdf" is created. A Dieline was created for the text here. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.
