1. Introduction

The Fixup Add Pole Pockets is available in the Workflow. The aim of the Fixup is to add a pole pocket to the selected side of the Print Item. The Print Item on the back is mirrored on the front.

2. General

The Fixup Add Pole Pocket can be used to create a pole pocket on the front of a Print Item. The back of the Print Item is mirrored to the front. It is also possible to set an overlap on the back. This overlap is also added to the front.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order, or Production Job by

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the LFP option in the Category area,
  • activating the Add option in the Action area,
  • activating the Bleed and Pole Pocket option in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixups can be used to create a pole pocket on the desired side of the Print Item by mirroring the Print Item. For double-sided Print Items, the second side of the Print Item is mirrored onto the front. If an overlap is set, this overlap is also mirrored onto the front. This creates a kind of "Bleed" based on the Print Item on the reverse side.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • The print file contains a maximum of two pages - a front and back.
  • The print file can also be single-sided, whereby the same Print Item is used for mirroring.

Figure 1: The dialog of the Fixup Add Pole Pocket

The following options can be selected to create a pole pocket:

  • Template [1] –Settings that are selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and thus applied to other Articles/Print Items.
  • Reference Edge [2] – select the edge/side where a pole pocket is to be created. All other options that are selected relate to the selected edges.
  • Hem [3] – enter the size of the hem for the respective side here. By clicking on the lock, the values for the respective page can be entered separately. For the Variable Content [7], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the hem i.e. pole pocket of the respective edge should be retrieved.
  • Also add hem on page 2 [4] – by activating the option, a pole pocket is also created on the second side (back). Side 2 is used for the front and side 1 for the back.
  • Additional Overlap [5] – enter the size of the additional overlap of the respective side here. The specified value is mirrored on the front in addition to the hem and overlaps when the hem is created on the back. This can be used to avoid "Flashes", for example. For the Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder - Database field or User-defined field - from which the value for the overlap of the respective edge should be retrieved.
  • Create non-printed Welding Areas at the corners [6] – if three or four edges are selected as the reference edge, activating this option leaves the corners of the created hem unprinted.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, you can refer to the sample file "Sample_Add pole pockets.pdf". This is a two-page file (front and back).

After applying the Fixups, the file "Sample_Add pole pockets_End.pdf" is created, where a pole pocket was created at the top and bottom edge. The values from Figure 1 were used.

The file "Sample_Add pole pockets_End2.pdf" is available for comparison. Here, a hem was created on all 4 edges with the values from Figure 1. In addition, the option Create non-printed Welding Areas at the corners was activated.
