Updated on

Find out in this article,

  • which requirements must be met to carry out this Fixup and
  • how to apply the Fixup.

1. Introduction

The Fixup Convert Fonts to Outlines is available in the Workflow. The aim of this Fixup is to convert fonts within the print file into Outlines.

2. General

The Fixup Convert Fonts to Outlines can be used to convert embedded fonts into outlines. This can prevent any faulty productions of fonts in the RIP process. Please note, however, that texts with low-resolution printing systems (less than 600 dpi) may appear somewhat thicker in the output.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Font in the Category area,
  • activating the option Convert in the Action area,
  • activating the option Shape in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to convert fonts to outlines. Please note that only embedded fonts can be converted to Outline. Missing glyphs cannot be converted.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following requirements must be met:

  • The file contains glyphs with an embedded font.

No further options can be selected.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Convert Fonts to Outlines.pdf". The file contains the font Helvetica Neue with the font weights Condensed Bold and Regular. The font is embedded and is to be converted to outlines.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Convert Fonts to Outlines_End.pdf" is created. Here the font has been converted to outlines. Visually, there is hardly any difference.
