3.29 Convert Registration Color

1. Introduction

The Fixup Convert Registration Color is available in the Workflow. This Fixup aims to convert all objects that are colored with Registration Color into a 100% K or the Spot Color "Separation Black".

2. General

The Fixup Convert Registration Color can be used to convert objects colored with the Registration Color into a 100% black or into a Spot Color Black. By converting to a Spot Color, this can be precisely configured in the output on digital printing systems so that the black tone always has the same appearance in production.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Color in the Category area,
  • activating the option Convert in the Action area,
  • activating the option Grayscale, CMYK, Spot Color, Rich Black and Register Mark in the Search area.

3. Description

With this Fixup, all objects that are colored with the color registration marks can be converted either to 100% black or to the Spot Color "Separation Black". Objects with the Spot Color "Black" are also converted to the Spot Color "Separation Black".

Print Marks in Registration Color

Please note that print marks that are inked with the Registration Color are also affected by this Fixup. It is not possible to exclude the print marks.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • There is at least one object in the file that is colored with Registration Color.

To convert Registration Color, the following option can be selected:

  • CMYK - Converts Registration Color to 100% K [1] – by activating this option, all objects that are colored in Registration Color will be converted to 100% black of CMYK.
  • Spot Color Black - Converts to the Spot Color "Separation Black" [2] – by activating this option, all objects that are colored in registration marks are converted to the Spot Color "Separation Black".
  • Rich Black - Converts Registration Color to Rich Black [3] – activating this option will convert all objects that are colored in registration color to the entered rich black definition.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Convert Color Register.pdf". The black cat in the Print Item was colored with Registration Color.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Convert Color Register_End.pdf" is created. Here, the black cat was converted from registration marks to a Spot Color. Visually, there is hardly any difference. However, if you convert the color with the option CMYK - Convert Registration Black to 100% K, a clear difference is visible.
