In this article, you will learn
- which requirements must be met for this Fixup, and
- how to apply this Fixup.
1. Introduction
The Fixup Duplicate Spot Color Separation is available in the Workflow. This Fixup duplicates an existing Spot Color Separation and allows you to colorize it with the desired Spot Color or rename the Spot Color.
2. General
The Fixup Duplicate Spot Color Separation can be used to duplicate an existing Spot Color Separation and fill it with another system-wide defined Spot Color that is output as a Separation. Thereby it is e.g. possible to duplicate and apply a White Separation as Varnish or Primer in the same size.
Access the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order, or Production Job by:
- entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
- activating the Page Box option in the Category area,
- activating the Modify option in the Process area, and by
- activating the MediaBox, CropBox, BleedBox, TrimBox, and Duplicate options in the Find area.
3. Description
With this Fixup, a selected Separation is duplicated and created in the desired Spot Color. The Spot Color Separation is duplicated together with all tonal value gradations.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:
- There is already a Spot Color Separation in the file.
Figure 1: The Fixup dialog box: Duplicate Spot Color Separation
To duplicate a Spot Color Separation, please refer to the following options:
- Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as templates, which can then be applied to other Articles/Print Items and used in the Apply Fixups operation.
- Spot Color Separation to be duplicated [2] – select the Spot Color Separation that should be duplicated from the drop-down menu. All Spot Colors used in the Print Item are available.
- Spot Color Name for the new Separation [3] – select the name of the new Spot Color Separation here. All Spot Colors defined as Separations system-wide are available for selection.
- Overprint State [4] – select whether the new Spot Color Separation should be generated as Overprint, Knockout, or Unchanged.
- Layer Name [5] – enter the name of the layer on which the new Spot Color Separation should be created. If no separate layer is required, simply deactivate the Fixup. Select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – for the Variable Content [7] from which the value for the layer name should be retrieved.
- Conformity of Processing Steps according to ISO 19593-1 [6] – by default, a Varnish separation should be created according to ISO 19593-1 on the Varnish layer within the Varnish group of the Varnish type - though this can also be omitted. For more information on the ISO standard, refer to the description of Processing Steps ISO 15931-1.
3.2. Before/After
Please refer to the example file "Sample_Duplicate Spot Color Separation.pdf" for a demonstration of how this function works. The example file contains an Overprinting White Separation that is applied more or less intensely depending on the overall coverage. The same Separation should now be created for Varnish with the same coverage.
After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Duplicate Spot Color Separation_End.pdf" is created. Here, the White Separation was duplicated and filled with Varnish. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.
