1. Introduction

The Fixup Extract Print Items from Page is available in the Workflow. This Fixup aims to extract individual subjects from the page. To do this, the individual subjects must be outlined by a Dieline.

2. General

The Fixup  Extract Print Items from Page can be used to extract individual Print Items from a page. This can be used, for example, to separate individual Print Items that have been compiled on a page so that they can be processed automatically in the Workflow.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Page in the Category area,
  • activating the option Split in the Action area,
  • activating the option Bleed in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to extract individual subjects (Print Items) that have been placed together on a page and process them separately. However, extraction can only take place if the individual Print Items on the page have a Dieline that has also been created as a Spot Color. The Dieline is required so that the individual Print Items can be identified.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixups to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • Several Print Items on the page are outlined with a Dieline.
  • Print Items must all be outlined with the same Dieline.

The following options can be selected to extract Print Items:

  • Spot Color [1] - select the Spot Color that frames the Print Items to be extracted.
  • Safety Zone [2] - enter the value for the respective safety margin here. For the Variable Content [3], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the respective safety margin should be retrieved.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file ".Sample_Extract Print Items from Page.pdf ". To illustrate the Fixup, this file was constructed with geometric shapes. Ten of the shapes have been outlined with the "Dieline".

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Extract Print Items from Page_End.pdf" was created, where all ten Print Items were extracted from the page. The TrimBox was adjusted to the Dieline. The BleedBox is placed on the safety margin entered. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.
