1. Introduction

The Remove Spot Colors Fixup is available in the Workflow. The aim of this Fixup is to remove a selected Spot Color, including all objects that are colored with it.

2. General

The Fixup Delete Spot Colors can be used to remove selected Spot Colors of the Print Item including the objects colored with them.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Color in the Category area,
  • activating the option Delete in the Action area,
  • activating the option Spot Color, Pantone, HKS or RAL in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to remove selected Spot Colors of a Print Item. Please note that all objects that are colored in this Spot Color will also be removed. In case you only want to remove the Spot Color, but want to keep the objects as "non-drawing" objects, read the advice at the end of the Article.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • The Print Item contains at least one Spot Color

The following options are available for deleting Spot Colors:

  • Template [1] settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and thus applied to other Articles/Print Items.
  • Selection mode [2] select how to search for the Spot Color that should be deleted. The following options are available:
    • List – select this option if you want to select the desired Spot Color from the selection menu [3].
    • Regular expression (RegEx) – select this option if you want to search for the desired Spot Color by entering a regular expression. To do this, enter the desired character string for the regular expression in the line provided.
  • Spot Color [3] use the drop-down menu to select the Spot Color of the Print Item that you want to delete along with all objects that have been colored using it. The drop-down menu only displays the Spot Colors that are contained in the file. If the Regular Expression (RegEx) option is selected for the selection mode, you can enter the regular expression in this area.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Remove selected Spot.pdf". There are two Spot Colors in the file. The background of the file has been colored with the Spot Color "Lilac". This Spot Color should now be deleted.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Remove selected Spot_End.pdf" is created. The background has been successfully removed here. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.

Delete Spot Color and keep object

To only delete a Spot Color and keep the affected objects, select the Fixup Rename Spot Colors and enter "None" as target color name. The object is then colored with "none" Spot Color and thus remains.
