1. Introduction
The Fixup Set Overprint State for Spot Colors is available in the Workflow. This Fixup aims to set the overprint state - i.e. Overprint or Knockout - for selected Spot Colors. RegEx (regular expressions) can be used in Fixup Chains to set the Overprint State for Spot Colors for several Spot Colors.
2. General
Use the Fixup Set Overprint State for Spot Colors to set selected spot colors to Overprint or Knockout.
Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order, or Production Job by
- entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
- activating the Color option in the Category area,
- activating the Change in the Action area,
- activating the Spot Color, Overprint and Knockout in the Search area.
3. Description
Use this Fixup to set the Overprint state of the selected Spot Colors. This means that an overprinting Spot Color or Technical Color can be set to Knockout, and Spot Colors and Technical Colors in Knockout can be set to Overprint.
RegEx only available in Fixup Chain!
Please note that the use of RegEx expressions is only permitted in Fixup Chains. It is not possible to use RegEx in the Print Items or article context.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following requirements must be met:
- There is at least one Spot Color or one Technical Color in the Print Item.

The following options can be selected to set the overprint status for spot colors:
- Spot Color Name [1] – select the Spot Color for which the Overprint state should be set from the drop-down menu. All Spot Colors in the Print Item are available for selection.
- Overprint State [2] – select the overprint state for the Spot Color here. Choose between Overprint and Knockout.
3.2. Before/After
To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Set Overprint State for Spot Colors.pdf". The file contains the "Dieline", which has been set to Knockout. This line should now become overprinting.
After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Set Overprint State for Spot Colors_End.pdf" is created. Here the "Dieline" was set to Overprint. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.
