Find out in this Article,
- which requirements must be met for this Fixup and
- how to apply this Fixup.
1. Introduction
The Fixup Scale Page Content - Width and Height is available in the Workflow. This Fixup aims to scale the page content of the TrimBox to a specific size by entering the width and height.
2. General
The Fixup Scale Page Content - Width and Height can be used to scale the page content to a specific size by entering the width and height based on the selected scale method in absolute or percentage terms.
The Fixup can be found in the Edit Page Box Fixup group in the Print Items detail view as well as in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Job or Production Job by:
- Entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
- Activating the Page Content option in the Category area,
- Activating the Scale option in the Process area and by
- Activating the BleedBox or TrimBox option in the Search area.
3. Description
Use this Fixup to scale the page content of the TrimBox to a specified size in absolute or percentage terms. Various scale methods are available for this. The Bleed is adjusted accordingly as a percentage.
The Fixup shows the current width and height of the ImageBox after it has been executed. When the Fixup is executed, the CropBox is also set to the size of the MediaBox.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following requirements must be met:
- A TrimBox is present in the Print Item. The MediaBox exists in every PDF file anyway.
- The BleedBox may be present.
Figure 1: The dialog of the Fixup Scale page content - width and height
The following options can be selected to scale the page content:
- Templates [1] – save settings selected in the dialog as a template and apply them to other Articles/Print Items.
- Scale Method [2] – here you can select which scale method should be used. The following options are available in the selection menu:
- Fit from inside (Scale page edges proportionally) – scales the image area of the TrimBox to the specified size. As the proportions are retained, only the resolution of the images is adjusted according to the enlargement or reduction. The short edge of the target size is used for the calculation. Please note that only the value entered for the short edge is retained. The long edge is adjusted proportionally.
- Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected scale method should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field for the Fit from inside (Scale page edges proportionally) scale method to be executed:
FitFromInside

- Fit from inside (add white space) - with this scale method, the user can enter the value for the width and the value for the height independently of each other, which means that the page content usually no longer remains proportional to the original size. This means that the image area of the TrimBox is fitted to the specified width or height and filled with white space accordingly.
- Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected scale method should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field in order for the Fit from inside (create white space) scale method to be executed:
FitFromInsideProp

- Fit from outside (Cut page sides) - with this scaling option, the user can enter the value for the short edge and the value for the long edge independently of each other, which means that the page content usually no longer remains proportional to the original size. This means that the image area is adjusted to the specified short edge or long edge and the image is cropped.
- Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected scale method should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field so that the FitFromOutside (Cut Page) scale method is executed:
FitFromOutside

- Fit from outside (scale page edges proportionally) – scales the image area to fit the specified size from the outside. As the proportions are retained, only the resolution of the images is adjusted according to the enlargement or reduction. The long edge of the target file is used for the calculation.
- Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected scale method should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field in order so that the Fit from outside (scale page edges proportionally) scale method is executed:
FitFromOutsideProp

- Stretch to fill - with this scaling option, the user can enter the value for the short edge and the value for the long edge independently of each other. The image box is completely filled with the image, even if the image area has to be distorted disproportionately as a result.
- Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selected scale method should be retrieved. The following value must be found in the selected field so that the Fill completely (if necessary, distort disproportionately) scale method is executed:
StretchToFit

Scale Options [3] – select whether you want to scale absolutely or as a percentage.
- Scaling by percentage - shows the current scaling of the width and height of the TrimBox frame. If you enter a different value, the content is scaled to the width or height of the TrimBox as a percentage.
- Scaling absolute - displays the current height or width of the TrimBox frame. By entering a different value, the content is scaled to the entered height or width.
- Width [4] – the value for the target width is entered here. For the Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the width should be retrieved.
- Height [7] – the value for the target height is entered here. For the Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the height should be retrieved.
-
Pages [5] – for Multipage files, it is possible to limit the scaling to the entered page range. Examples for entering the page selection are provided in the info box [10]. The following entries can have an effect on the page selection:
- All - All pages are scaled.
- 8 - Page 8 is scaled.
- 1-6 - Pages 1 to 6 are scaled.
- -3-1 - the last 3 pages are scaled.
- even - all even pages are scaled.
- odd - all odd pages are formatted.
- 1-5,8,13-16 - page 1 to 5, page 8 and page 13 to 16 are scaled.
3.2. Before/After
The source file Set_PageBox_Start contains a MediaBox measuring 450 x 300 mm and a TrimBox measuring 430 x 280 mm. The BleedBox is in exactly the same position as the MediaBox. The subject is to be produced in the size 330 x 250 mm (visible format).
The corrected version Set_PageBox_End is created by executing the Fixup.
