Updated on

Find out in this article,

  • which requirements must be met to carry out this Fixup and
  • how to apply the Fixup.

1. Introduction

The Fixup Remove Printing Objects in Defined Area is available in the Workflow. The aim of this Fixup is to remove printing objects for a defined area.

2. General

The Fixup Remove Printing Objects in Defined Area can be used to  to remove all printing objects for an area marked by a Spot Color. The defined area is filled with the desired color, which means that all underlying objects are not rendered. Use this Fixups to create an unprinted gluing area if the gluing area is already described by a technical outline in the technical drawing.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Page Content in the Category area,
  • activating the option Delete and Fill in the Action area,
  • activating the option Shape in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixup allows printing objects to be set to Knockout in a defined area. The desired area is filled with the desired Spot Color and an additional Offset to the inside ("-" values) is applied.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following requirements must be met:

  • The area that should be filled is already described by an outline
  • The outline should already be created system-wide as a technical Spot Color

Figure 1: The dialog for the Fixup Remove Printing Objects in Defined Area

Use the following options to set a defined area:

  • Technical Color [1] - select the Technical Color that describes the defined area from the drop-down menu.
  • Offset [2] - enter the desired offset for the fill here. In this case, only "-" values - i.e. the offset inwards - are permitted, as an offset outwards can lead to flashes, among other things. For the Variable Content [3], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the offset should be retrieved.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, you can refer to the sample file "Sample_Remove Printing_Objects.pdf". The file contains the Technical Color "Ink Free".

Applying the Fixup creates the file "Sample_Remove Printing_Objects_End.pdf". All areas that are colored with the Technical Color "Ink Free" have now been removed.
